Eric, thank you so much for this request. My lifelong mentor is a Marine Vietnam vetern. Early in our relationship, he couldn't talk about his experience, but he did allow me the privilege of looking at his box of memorabilia from the war. The most poignant were the letters he received from wounded members of his platoon, thanking him for saving their lives. One night over drinks, I asked him about the letters. With a faraway look in his eyes, he explained that those were from young 18-20 year old guys under his command. They had been crossing a bridge that was bombed. My mentor, with shrapnel in his leg, ran back and forth picking up his wounded men, bringing them to cover. In total, he carried 5 of his wounded soldiers back from the bridge. The letters were from his men he saved. He is now in his early 80's, with shrapnel still in his leg, and has faced his memories and annually meets in DC with his fellow veterans. Semper Fi, Frank.

Thanks Eric for this request. Stephen (not Steven) is from southern Indiana. What I take from the song is, wars are started due to the actions of the older generation so why not let the generation that started the war, fight it. Why? Because they know better now than they did in their youth. They’d set aside their weapons, crack open cold beers, and share photos of their grandkids. Instead of bloodshed, they’d play cards and make new friends. Thanks for your review Don. The guys were Bill Don Roger and Ron, poor Roger was forgotten 🙂 "Wake up wake p the world is on fire" I think is cryptic reference to Ben, waking up to a world on fire. The urgency remains, but perhaps the solution lies in the wisdom of those who’ve seen it all.

Hey Don, appreciate the reaction and glad you guys liked it. I've been loving this guy and almost everything from his album. He's been a boxer (his father was a Golden Glove boxer) and a scientist (has a degree in microbiology) as well as lead guitarist for a rock band (AutoVaughn) . I was watching an interview with him and his dad passing away was the spark to him becoming what he is today, as he (Stephen) was more about songwriting and his dad had always expressed wanting to hear his son singing those songs rather than someone else. I usually only request a single song from an artist but Stephen has so many great ones that I gotta break that tradition. I'll be sending another one later but needing to mull over all the options a couple more times.
