On the first 2 attempts which broke down with reds down the side, I've no doubt nerves made him overhit whereas you have to give them a chance of going. He knows this like the back of his hand but when nerves are in play your mind goes like scrambled eggs and sense out the window. Tremendous efforts. The first go was going particularly well I thought, again nerves making him steadily lose the cue ball as each shot went by.

Many pros used to use substances or smoking to control the nerves. They were chain smoking, downing pints or vodka, sniffing all the time, or playing slow and looking like they were in a trance, because they were on beta blockers. When they started drug testing, several careers were effectively ended. Unfortunately, some paid a heavy price for the smoking and alcohol drinking. Now we see that with only lots of bottles of water, the standard is great, everything people used to take, probably hindered them.

@kwilson583221 күн бұрын
He pots a red, then the graphic says '30', acknowledged by Stephen. Then pink, bringing the score to 36. BUT when he pots the next red (at 8:39 ), Stephen announces '38', which is two more than before he played the shot, although the graphic correctly shows '37'. When the next green is potted, Stephen says nothing (but thinks the break is 41 instead of 40), then announces 42 when it was really 41.
