What I WAS watching last night, were the wingers passing when necessary, compared to last year, where it was head down and being incredibly selfish. They were linking up with the centre forward and midfielders for the good of the team, not their own egos. More of this will make us a progressive side.

For Ugarte one thing I noticed was that he is an emotional player. We’ve quite a lot of those already, players who when they’re at it perform incredibly well and when the mood drops can be absolute wankers (*Coughs* Bruno). You can also see he wasn’t up to match speed, but the fundamentals are solid to be a really pivotal player for us. Another thing is for the first time we seemed to score from the exact tenets Erik build’s his team on, high turnover, quick transitions and direct plays. The quality of the opposition definitely helped but since the Fulham game, I have been of the opinion that United should stick to the game plan whether it scores a goal or not. They get overwhelmed and end up resulting to chaotic football when they don’t score. To form any kind of pattern it is repeat and rinse, score or not, do it over and over again.

There should be an entire episode devoted to speaking on the difference between "standards" and "realistic expectations". People who say "The standards have dropped" are just absolutely rubbish. The standards haven't dropped. United should be winning the league every year: fact. When United don't win the league, it is not a successful league season. United should be competing in the Champions' League: fact. We can't say they should win the CL every year; there's no way that should be a standard with United only achieving it twice (3x if we count '68). But the truth is (realistic expectations time!): it ain't happenin' right now. It just ain't. And it hasn't for a while. And a LOT of that has to do with mismanagement, and I don't mean Erik Ten Hag. If you're a fan, and you hold Manchester United to "the standard" all the time, and you're not happy unless "the standard" is met: what are you doing? How have you survived the past decade? Realistic expectations are where it's at for Supporters. We want this club to do well and do better, always. We want to be entertained and excited. These days (different from the past), we'd like mostly likeable blokes playing for the club with minimal off-pitch drama. We want progress because since the Glazers took over, it's just been slow regression. I'm tired of that. I'll be patient; just show me the product is improving. In the US, we have a saying, and I'm sure there's a matching one in England, too: "Slow nickels over fast dimes". Essentially, it just means I'd rather have steady progress that lasts than quick gains that flicker on and off. I'm a United supporter. I'll be here my whole life. If I were to tragically lose my life sooner than I'd like, I'll say, confidently, "This club is on track to improve, year on year, for the foreseeable future, and I'm jealous of the next generation of supporters who get to enjoy it." Great to see the performance and scoreline both reflect each other for a change. Interesting that I still find that Rashie plays best imo down that inside right channel. Garnacho, Rashie and Amad maybe with Rashie through the centre against teams that will give us a bit of space? Against teams where we have less possession maybe need a Zirkzee or Hojlund...however, good to see a more balanced midfield going forward although we will have tougher tests. Any thoughts whether same result happens with Bruno in there ahead of Eriksen? But think it proves at least that Eriksen is better in the more No.10 role than deep where lack of legs/pace puts team at risk.

There's the early signs of something interesting happening with United right now. It was a great point by Ste about what Rangnick said. The club was broken when Erik took over and some fans were delusional if they expected it to be sorted overnight. The Ineos team are only just in place and they've made a good start, we'll really see the effects of the culture shift over the next year or two. ETH had no backup at all for his first couple of seasons, having the likes of Brailsford, Wilcox and Ashworth in place should allow him to focus fully on his coaching role.

He was pretty sloppy defending at LB and while that had no influence on the game, I hope it doesn’t break his confidence. Man said Rashford isn't the finished article yet. He's 27 at the end of October. Ste, he is the finished article. All he needs to do now is stop being a purple patch player. He needs to start scoring consistently and not go through another long dry spell of 4-5 months. He should be scoring and assisting every month now. If he can do that for the next 3 seasons, then he is a good finished article which has been used well. If not, then he we can say in 3 years that he had manufacturing defects. But you can't Jesse Lingard him. I feel he will come good under Eric. If EtH is sacked, Rashford's form will fall off a cliff.

Not to be too critical on Marcus Rashford but we saying here Rashford is a player that relies on confidence. last season he was terrible and low on confidence, the season before that he was on fire and we said high on confidence - all I ask is can we not get atleast 2 consecutive seasons of this high on confidence on fire Rashford rather than what we've got so far with him at United - which is really if you look at it a good season followed by an average/bad season followed by a good season and so on?? and furthermore do United have to be concerned that this is not a confidence problem but rather just the norm of what we can expect from Rashford and that is erratic performances season to season???

I would always be the voice of caution on this channel. It is a great display but remember that it is against barnsley a league one team.
