Also, loved hearing from Simon Bell who really appears to have gotten just what Dusty's musical contributions were all about.

Burt describes her voice right, "Restrained but under it, she was on fire and smoldering, such romance and passion."

Gotta love Miss Martha claiming that The Supremes were "unknowns" when the Motown Revue did the Ready Steady Special. LOL -- the Supremes were the only artists on that particular show who had already had a UK #1 hit! ("Baby Love," for the record.)

Serious question. In some of these BBC shows is she singing over a backing track. Like an early version of karaoke? Some of it sounds like a live recording, even some of the RSG clips. I just want to know how they did it.

In the early seasons of TOTP and RSG, artists mimed entire songs. By the mid-60's, RSG had moved to better studio which allowed for live performances. Meanwhile the musicians union forced TOTP to stop mimed performances, but a compromise was reached where singers were allowed to use a pre-recorded backing track.

@alicetheactress It was probably the make-up causing the orange skin appearance. Thankfully, bronzing products have come a long way since that time!

Is it just me or do 70s colour recordings make even the palest look orange?
