The Mourne Wall is a 22mile long stone wall in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. Originally built to keep livestock from fouling the reservoirs, it's now a key landmark & navigational tool for explorers of this beautiful compact mountain range.

Great video Stephen! Enjoyed the adventure even though it didn’t go to plan. Love the Mournes! A lot of tough climbs to get to all those summits though! Think I’ll give the Mourne Wall a go next year, over 2 days with a wild camp seems the best way although not sure I fancy your spot in Annalong woods!
@StephenJReid
@StephenJReid 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom! I picked that spot as it was: 1. About halfway around the route, 2. Sheltered from wind (no warm layers to put on so if exposed I'd have been v cold), 3. Near Water supply 4. just about had phone signal. Although next time I might choose somewhere easier to get out of!

@StephenJReid
@StephenJReid 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks James. Yeah trade offs with camping locations. I wanted somewhere sheltered, with phone signal and near a water supply. Also had to be about halfway around the route. A summit camp would have been freezing cold one the sun went down and I'm just in shorts and t-shirt as not carrying extra layers. Have since bought a Rab Ridge raider bivvi, which will be better for colder weather

I liked the change of pace in this one, much more gentle and more time to take it all in. It makes me miss walking, but these days I'd usually choose a run over a walk. If I can afford it I hope to visit Ireland (too see family and explore with my son) this year. I might try and sneak in a short trip to Northern Ireland while I'm there! I would say that walk was mostly not a failure - I really suffer with heat too, I blame it for the poor run I had at the Bristol 10k in September!
@StephenJReid
@StephenJReid 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig. Feel like this year I might do more things at a slower pace, sometimes on a hard run you don’t get to appreciate where you are. I’m hoping I might get a couple trips across to Scotland and England this year. A few plans in the works.

Nothing like the heat to zap all your energy. Excellent video and some nice drone footage 👍. P.S. @29:55 you said next time you’d bring “dehydrated water”, the ultimate weight saving 😂 btw what weight would your kit be without all the camera gear?
@StephenJReid
@StephenJReid 2 жыл бұрын
I think the camera gear probably came close to around 1.5-2kg. So without the camera kit and with better food choices, it would probably have been down to under 7kg. I think if I was really strict I could get it down to around 5kg with no luxuries. The dehydrated water helps with that a lot.

Pity you had the few problems but fair play for pushing on and doing the 22 miles. You have an excuse to do it again at least.. Your bivvy set up was class too. I may get a bivvy like that myself. THanks! yeah v cleaver backpack. Also has hidden tent peg in it as well. Might make a video on it sometime, once I've used it more. A lot of the drone footage was with the DJI Mini 2, brilliant drone when it's not too windy! Yeah that bivvi setup is great in warmer weather when you can camp in trees. Have since purchased a hooped bivvi, more of a tiny tent. Which I'm going to test on a summit sometime.

@@StephenJReid ah that is savage. Its the small things like those that make all the difference. I'd love to see that video on the backpack. I am delighted to hear it was the mini 2 because I have been looking to buy that drone. I have the Snugpak Stratosphere. It is by far my favourite way to camp. I shove my backpack down into the foot end to raise the fabric up and increase airflow which drastically reduces the condensation and it keeps my gear dry and out of sight. I just keep the essentials for during the night in a small dry bag up at the head end. All the best for your summit camp, love the channel 👍
