Stephen is a better Pikmin player but Mal is a better Pikmin backseat gamer. Basically Mal is better at giving advice and strategizing while Stephen is better at playing under pressure (but just barely). Stephen stresses too much when Mal plays, more stressed than when he's playing himself, and Mal freezes when she's under pressure.

27:59 “Everything about this was like, super, super stressful… and yet… it’s actually really fun.” I think that quote summarises why I love this game so much. It’s incredibly hard and stressful, but that makes it more engaging and the victories become that much more sweet. I remember my first play through of the game. I was also constantly stressed out, worried about losing Pikmin, and in the end lost about 250. That’s after watching Emile’s let’s play so I knew what was coming. But you guys knew nothing coming in other than that it was Pikmin and with how hard the game is, you didn’t do too terribly.

Idk, part of what I like about pikmin 2 is the bosses are scary, and most of them have a new mechanic you have to work around. Pikmin 3's bosses were pretty easy, and none of them really felt that threatening besides the huge stomping island guy. Also it's a lot more linear and hand holdy (the holotapes you find tell you exactly how to solve every puzzle)

I remember the first time i witnessed the dream den. I was maybe 7 years old and my brother was maybe 10. Over the course of 2 years he had slowly but surely 100% each cave. And then, the dream den. After a fairly treacherous journey down, he arrived at the final floor. When the dweevil emerged he paused the game and put his head in his hands. While I, having never beaten a video game before, Didn't understand games could be beat. My brother, Did understand, and realized the game was to be over. After a terrible battle, he won. He left the cave with 3 purples, 2 reds, and some yellows i Believe. I didn't understand why he was so upset, he beat a boss! Normally that was a happy thing. He explained to me what it meant, and I was sad too. Since that day, I have never 100% pikmin, in an effort to keep some bits always incomplete, so I never get a chance to never finding anything new. Congrats you guys! Pikmin 2 is a monster of a game!

Pikmin 2 is one of my most favorite games of all time and surprisingly my favorite of the series. That being said, SWEET JIMMONY CRICKETS you two had it really rough! From the bomb placements, to the bosses, all the way to the RNG dungeons making the levels even more difficult then they should be. You two had an painful time with this game and I heavily appoligize for your brutal experience with the game. Hopefully Pikmin 3 will go smoother, and BE CAREFUL IN CHALLENGE MODE. I aslo recommend reading the piklopedia before you go into the challenge mode, not just because it has some good hints, but also that some of the descriptions are hillarious and will help calm your nerves before the things get rough. Also their is a hidden plot twist in two of the entries that are worth reading. Wish you luck on your next LP and thank you for the laughs, the stress, and the quality that your videos provide.

16:31 That's a funny bug. I think I know why it happens; the music in this game is sequenced (kind of like a MIDI file - each instrument is in an individual sound file and a sequence of notes determines which one is played at what time and at what pitch). And the music in this fight dynamically switches to a different sequence each time it attacks. Since the sequence switched, the channel volumes were all reset and didn't have a chance to be set by the new sequence yet... which made the piano notes mistakenly play at a much louder volume than they were meant to, since they were already queued by the previous sequence to play in one of the channels.

I know it's not relevant anymore, but the spider enemies have a very simple pattern, for this one it is: [stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp > stop > Take action > Enemies near? = attack, not near? = stomp again or idle animation] The idle animation is when he's most vulnerable, that's when it's best to attack. You can go back and watch it again, it's pretty simple.

(Late comment) So... it's finally over. Pikmin 2 is notoriously brutal to first-timers, and as someone who completed it for the first time this year, *YEAH IT'S PRETTY BRUTAL*... but I still love it. So... tips for Pikmin 3? I know it won't be for until at least 2018, but still: -If Pikmin 2 is "Stress Management: The Game" than I guess Pikmin 3 is "Multitasking: The Game"? Multitasking isn't super required too much, but it's better if you do. Remember to multitask as much as possible. -Pretty shortly into the game (I hardly consider it a spoiler), you get the "Go Here" function on your KopPad. It basically lets you send a captain to a specified area on the GamePad. It helps you multitask easier and more efficiently. USE IT OFTEN, it's probably the best feature in the game. -Going off of that, use your map often. It's significantly more detailed than in the first two games. -Nunchuck + Wii Remote with the GamePad at your side is the best control scheme in my, and most people's opinion. Basically, you'll be used to the controls from the get-go and still get to use the GamePad's features. -Marching is gone, the replacement is Charging. It basically instantly charges all your Pikmin at whatever you're locked onto (lock on to a target with Z). It makes taking down walls and enemies so much faster and easier. In case you're wondering, leading Pikmin around hazards isn't as necessary since Pikmin follow you in a narrow line (taking the same path as you) and there aren't a ton of elemental hazards. - Lastly, check every data file you see and pay attention to what they say. It could give plot info, tips, or even hint you towards secrets nearby. Also, not a tip, but I'd love to see you and Mal take on Pikmin 3's extra modes too after you finish the main story. They're a lot of fun (especially the treasure collection mode)

I'm proud of you guys. This isn't an easy game, but you pushed through, and that ending is so dang satisfying. For your help Stephen, challenge mode plays a little differently. First you can play 2-player, you are given a set number of pikmin and sprays per levels. Treasures are not require but the boost your score. Your score is made up of treasure you got, pikmin that leave the cave with you, if you passed the time limit. After you complete a level you will be awarded with a white or purple flower. White flower means pikmin died and purple means no pikmin died. If you get a purple flower on every level, it will show you a secret.

I just cant imagine motion controls being better for this particular game. We see how it kept affecting Mal anyhow. ANYHOW! Although I agree that this is a very great game, with many new challenges to overcome, I do also agree that I don't think this is the best direction the game could have taken and made the time management and more peaceful aspect go out the window with randomised trials to get through and some reused aspects from above ground. Wasn't the most fun time when the game tests your patience and reflexes with some awkward layout or combination of traps/enemies. I do also think the final bosses has a lot of waiting around and once you know what to do, its not very challenging and kind of makes you use Yellows and not all different types. This is sort of counterbalanced with some very OP aspects like Purples, sprays and sometimes skipping obstacles that aren't necessary. I have to agree that the treasure/creature entries are a highlight after beating the game. Some hilarious stuff. Looking forward to seeing Challenge Mode and 3 in the future.

Oh my god! This let's play! As somebody who has watched your Pikmin 1 let's play, marathoned this whole let's play beginning September 23rd and has 100% this game multiple times I have some thoughts. With the level of skill you two had going into Pikmin 2 Blind, I think it was a bad decision to spread your time playing the game and the release of the let's play over the course of 5-6 months because I felt like because of doing that, you never quite got into a groove with this game. The reason I say this is because of but not absolutely limited to the following: 1. As I watched this let's play I noticed that you forgot specific things multiple times throughout the game or didn't have an understanding of certain things by the end of the game, such as what an enemy does to attack or how an enemy "acts" (at one point during the Dream Den a fiery blowhog had walked into a bulborb which caused it to wake up, but you had missed that and the two of you suddenly instead came to the conclusion that Bulborbs can wake up on their own from time to time) 2. Your handling of the controls from time to time: the whole camera thing, missing an enemy with the bitter spray. Etc... What I'm trying to say is, because there are so many things in Pikmin 2 that need to be learned (It is in the Strategy game genre), when played blind I personally think it's best played over the course of 1-4 weeks, so that all of these learned skills can really get stick in your mind (muscle memory?) but because the two of you played the game over the course of 5-6 months I could see throughout the let's play that there were many things you weren't as sharp with or had gotten rusty with from time due to the fact that you two were not playing the game at the rate required to be able to properly get all these new skills in your muscle memory. People don't usually learn to ride a bike a bike over the course of 5-6 months for example because that is not productive learning. Pikmin skills in general are best learned over a short period of time instead of a long one. What I believe you should have done differently is: Possibly have played Pikmin 1 again to familiarize yourself? (I'm not sure if the two of you did), Practised with Pikmin 2 Co-op, Asked for some advice from people who have played pikmin 2 before starting. Obviously Pikmin 3 is ways away but here is my advice: People who are telling you it's a cake walk or is stress free is lying to you!!! While it's not as difficult as Pikmin 2 it's difficulty is closer to Pikmin 2 than to Pikmin 1! In fact there is much more multi-tasking since there are 3 captains! I can see a somewhat similar repeat of this let's play if and all of the stress and comments if you do not address some issues before then.

aw man...I wiiiiish that it went "The end?" like Donkey Kong and then threw them into one final battle with whatever pikmin they may have had...and that NO ONE ever said a peep about it just so I could watch/listen to Stephen lose it one last time xD So many memorable moments from this series. I will miss it.

I think the thing that bugs me about t the caves in this game is that they aren't consistent. One sublevel is an out door type and the next is one where you can through Pikman over the edge. It feels like there wasn't as much thought put into this game as Pikman 1. Still I do still want to play this game and it's thanks to Stephen and Mal, so thank you.

The game isn't all that bad it's just all about strategy. Also even though this was a blind lp, there's nothing wrong with having practice files. Either way good job on the game. And I wish you guys luck during Pikmin 3. Also you may wanna drink some more tea before you guys start the next one.

I imagine the titan dweevil was a bit harder on gamecube due to the more limited whistle. You couldn't just run away and whistle your dying pikmin from safety.

Just want to say that, even with everything I said, I enjoyed most of this LP and I am happy that all that stress is finally gone, even with the thing that annoyed me a lot of this, it was a good LP and I want to say that I'm sorry if I gave a bad time in some way. You had a lot of stress and it also that stress went to me, it wasn't easy and you did good, at least better that I could have

Is it weird that everytime I see the ending of any Pikmin game, not just Pikmin 2, but any of the main three I kinda tear up a bit. The games can be stressful but then something about the ending makes it calming, but also makes me miss the adventure, even if I wasn’t the one playing

The three funniest Piklopedia entries are the Caustic (Blue) Dweevil, Mamuta and the Glowcap.

I find it funny you didn't react to the ship saying Louie controlled the bug, but you should go back and read Olimar's notes on Louie as well before you jump into Challenge Mode! Congrats on finishing you guys! It was frustrating to watch at some points, but it was still funny to watch.

Good luck with chaledge mode because it is harder than the actual game towards the end. If you beat it you will get a new cut seen, but you have to do it with no pikmin deaths.
