Thank you for this! It’s something that I never thought about using photo references. I crop photos, but never realized many of the other things you pointed out.

Great subject. I always feel a tad guilty when I deviate from the reference significantly. One idea: if you have a digitized photo you can also (with the proper software - some of which is free) turn it b&w and/or export is as a low-res jpeg [does a visual abstraction for you to compare and ponder] to see different aspects of the drawing. I find in my drawings, the edges make a huge difference visually overall. I do find that if I have defined edges it can require a lot of reworking to blend them if you intend to repurpose it (e.g. put it on a t-shirt). Thank You!

Let me declare you officially free, Scott, from being bound by the photo. Time to let your creativity fly. 😀

So, is what you are saying that we should print out the same pictures in different tones so we can see the picture more clearly, or even change it.
@stephentraversart10 ай бұрын
That’s one of the 8 points, yes. We could just play around with the values digitally and print the effect we like best. 😀

If one deaws a piece following your suggestions and lessons, can one show you for a review? If yes, how?
@stephentraversart10 ай бұрын
I do review (critique) drawings, but this is something I charge for, as I earn my living from my art. If you contact me through my website I can tell you the details if you’re interested further. (www.stephentraversart.com)
