I must say, the departure of the Michael Jordan era in its greatness gave rise to some of the most competitive persevering basketball the NBA would ever see, more guards (smaller ones) going hard in the paint, toe to toe with the best skilled rim protectors, Stephon Marbury was part of that revolution. Exceptional both at home and overseas.

Marbury, Francis and A.I. (yes, even Iverson) could've had better careers if they were more unselfish. So much talent.
@LovingTinha
@LovingTinha 9 жыл бұрын
LakersDynasty42 they weren't selfish, they weren't appreciated for their size, the nba is tough for small players, because they face twice the adversity, what most people don't understand is that coaching staff and management ride small players pretty hard. They love the upside when it goes good, but they are unforgiving when it all doesn't go to plan. Where as they are more forgiving with bigger players. Usually smaller players are a huge liability because of their size, so if they cannot make up for it with an abundance of other things they are soon treated like shit. That is what happened to most of the small players like ai, steph, mugsy, spud, nate etc...They could all have greater careers if they had been fully supported by their teams, but the teams they play for usually only support them if they can deliver big, as soon as they have a few off games or injury or just a bad night, they aren't looked after. People start blaming the small guy first. Just a sad reality of the business called NBA. I have no doubt that if teams gave these players support they would all have had better careers. But half the battle was with their own teams who did not appreciate their talent.

@LakersDynasty42

LovingLife If they received blame it had nothing to do with them being small. Every star player gets criticized if they don't win (see Barkley and Malone). Francis wasn't a true point guard and wasn't a great scorer either which is why after his Houston years his career went downhill quickly. Marbury was constantly traded and didn't have any real playoff success until he went to Boston where he barely played. I was a big A.I. fan growing up but looking back now I see him for what a really was. An inefficient scorer that needed the team built around him to succeed. The Nuggets lost in the 1st round with him and a year later they reached the WCF because they acquired Billups. Once Iverson got older he received offers from teams like the Spurs to come off the bench and possibly win a title but he refused. That's why his career ended the way it did. Selfish.

+TyTimeIsAwesome Yep he basically became jealous when K.G signed that 100+ million dollar contract and they only offered him 60 + million, if my memory serves me correctly. Damn it has been so many years ago.
@TyTimeIsAwesome
@TyTimeIsAwesome 8 жыл бұрын
Therealtlorenzo1 I believe we only offered 60 mill because that's all we could offer, since after KG signed that insane deal it broke the CBA and a new cap was assigned.

***** I think you misunderstood what happened. When KG signed his deal, there was no cap in the NBA. So he could sign whatever contract and for however much money he wanted. Remember, Jordan was getting paid $30 mill a year. The NBA and Stern basically said screw you Wolves after we signed Garnett to his lucrative contract, implementing a cap and restricting us. If there was no cap, Wolves would probably give Steph the same amount as we did KG, but NO the NBA said we can't anymore AFTER we gave KG his contract. It was never ever Garnett's fault bro.

oc chan maybe you should watch that play. a crossover like that you see maybe once a season. only reason why i agree it didn't make his top 10 is because the play was not unfinished. but take nothing away from that crossover.
