I have an adult son with egg allergy. I am always so happy to find a classic like this with no eggs.

You can put plastic wrap over the top , before putting in the fridge, to keep it from forming a skin on top of pie. Looks good 👍!

Exactly like the one my grandma and I have made. We've alway put a meringue on ours...from the south. 😄

My grandma made chocolate and lemon pies all the time. I miss them so much! I asked her one day to show me how to make them so i could write it down. She says...a handful of this, a pinch of this, a half a handful of this.. in and on.. 😂😂😂😂

That was my mom to. I didn’t make my first pie till 4 years ago. It was just pumpkin with store bought pie crust but 2 friends came over and totaled 1 pie, lol. But I sure miss my mom simple pies, her chocolate, lemon and coconut cream.

That is one gorgeous pie! One other way to use homemade chocolate pudding or pie filling is to spoon it warm over plain cupcakes that you split vertically and spoon the chocolate over them and top with whipped cream. My mother made that when I was growing up. I will definitely try your recipe. It looks so chocolatey and velvety. Yum!

Back in the fifties I can remember my mom making pies. She'd make one chocolate and one lemon at the same time. Home made pie crust. Likely she used jello pudding mixes. Way before instant so she had to cook them. Once the pies were cool she'd make a meringue from scratch and put it on top of the pies. Perhaps two and a half inches or more tall. Those were the best pies. I think if you're doing a chocolate pie meringue will make it far better.

Looking at it, watching the ingredients it looks like the one my mom would make. Now, my aunt would make this fancy one but truth be told I preferred my mom’s. My mom didn’t put anything on top. I do remember just like this woman my mom would constantly stir it to keep it from sticking. You can put a bit of dark cocoa mix if you like it darker in looks and taste.

I use this recipe but like to add half a bar of dark Cadbury chocolate or a whole bar if I only have the milk Cadbury. It gives it an additional rich flavor. If I use the milk, pull back in the granulated sugar.

HEY STEPHANIE, I AM GOING TO MAKE IT FOR THANKSGIVING! WHAT CAN I USE TO SUBSTITUTE THE CORN STARCH? PLEASE ADVISE?
@stephsstovebystephaniethom7249Ай бұрын
You can use any of the following depending on your specific situation: arrowroot powder (similar to cornstarch and you will need to dissolve in water first- use a 1:1 ratio), potato starch (use 1:1 ratio), tapioca flour (works very well when making a pudding-use 2:1 ratio), rice flour (may need a little more than cornstarch- not sure of exact but may need a smidge more than 1:1), or all-purpose flour (easy to find but may not thicken as well). There may be more, but these are what I’m familiar with. I hope this helps and provides you some alternative choices. Thanks for watching and your question. Have a blessed evening and a happy Thanksgiving! 🍁 🦃🍽

That looks so good. I am diabetic. Can this recipe be made with a non-sugar substitute?
@stephsstovebystephaniethom7249Ай бұрын
I have not made it with a sugar substitute; however, I feel it would work just fine. Many of the sugar substitutes available now measure the same as sugar. I’m sure you are much more familiar with these than I am. Please let me know if you try it and the one that works best. I would be interested in your results. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed weekend!!! 🤗😊🤗
