When Jackie says “ok now let’s get one with the whole family” I immediately want to tear up 🥹 it was definitely her way of letting everyone know that she accepts Isobel as a part of their family and taking over the role when she dies. Great acting, this is a childhood classic for me, I’ve always remembered the song playing at the end thanks to this movie.

This scene shows how even though Anna knows her mother’s dying, Jackie says it’s okay for her to miss her and she’ll always be with her as long as she takes her along. Besides, she’s not afraid for her since Isabel will always be there for her.

Without that wonderful song I’m sure it wouldn’t be as touching . And honestly what Jackie went through was tough raising your kids and then watching someone else join I can’t imagine how are that might be and knowing that you might die soon. Her character is very noble and strong much respect what a beautiful touching movie the producers of Forrest Gump hence another great phenomenal movie with amazing actors and actresses never fail to amuse me !

Saw this movie with my stepmom about 5 years after it came out. She passed away 8 years ago. My siblings and I watch some of her favorite movies on her birthday and anniversary of her death (50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer, Stepmom, among others). My brother listens to Kenny Chesney all day on those days. Jackie telling Anna to take her along will always resonate with us.

@@Ari-ge5cp I know I'm late to this, any maybe no one asked my opinion but... it's not a "nice Holywood ending" because we know she dies. The movie wasn't about cancer so there was no reason to show that bit. The movie was about overcoming ego and prejudice and pettiness to come together as mothers and as a family for the children, especially in the face of looming tragedy. It was about acceptance and about passing the torch and building a blended family. This does not require to show a trip to the ER. There are plenty of other movies that deal with it.

In Indian version they even added a segment where right after this picture scene story moves forward by some years and Jackie dead now and they are having marriage of elder daughter where she miss her mother and wished if she was there and that upsets stepmom because she feels Jackie’s character is her real mother and she is not the real mom and her fear was correct that she will miss her mom. And the very next moment elder daughter tells Isabella’s character that she is her mom and she wants her to be there to give her blessing for marriage in rituals of mother. And then Isabella remembers Jackie’s words - why she needs to choose between one of us. I had their past and you are their future. She can be with both of us. The Indian movie ends there.
