Three years after divorcing Jackie (Susan Sarandon), the mother of his children, Luke Harrison (Ed Harris) decides to take the next step with his significantly younger girlfriend, fashion photographer Isabel Kelly (Julia Roberts). @Ben Ben Actually, Jena herself often stated that she's more into doing indie films like "Donnie Darko" or "Into The Wld", instead of shallow blockbusters or family flicks. She even refused to play roles in "Air Force One" or even the main role in "The Parent Trap". Nevertheless she did gain a considerable popularity and fan base thanks to "The Hunger Games", as her role of Johanna Mason is a very popular one. And as long Jena doesn't get far off track by doing drugs or criminal actions like other former child actors (Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, etc.) I wouldn't say that her career turned out bad. Besides, who gives a f*** about Oscars anyway? Jena certainly doesn't.

I lost my Mom to cancer when I was 16 and my sister was 9. I remember the 3 of us having a similar conversation. I don't remember what was said really but just remember the 3 of us sitting on the floor hugging each other and crying. This movie really hits home. It's been almost 20 years now and I still miss her so much.

If this scene didn't make me cry enough, your comment did. ❤ I'm 42, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2 months ago, out of the blue. I have a 15 year old son, that I absolutely adore. I've had many emotions as of late. I want to see him graduate, do big things, and continue to love on him for decades...what a mom SHOULD be able to do. My heart is just broken. I remain hopeful, but have to be realistic too. Thank you sharing. My biggest fear is being forgotten or "replaced". I hate that you lost your mom, but enjoy knowing you still think of her all these years later.❤

I lost my only sibling at 20, and my dad at 30. My mom is all I have left and I cherish the time I have with her right now. This scene kills me because I know one day, I will have to say goodbye. Hate thinking about it, but it’s life. Cherish every day you can. That’s all we are allowed and we all must make the very best of every single moment.

Saying goodbye to a parent is indeed a dreadful thing, but have you ever imagined how it feels like for a dying parent to say goodbye to their children? Knowing that you won't be there to see them grow up, that you won't be there to protect them and take of them when they need you the most? As a mom, I'm terrible scared that something might happens to me... not because of me, but because of my babies. What would be of them without me?

Made me cry years before my Mom was diagnosed with leukemia, before cancer was even on the radar because I never wanted to be without her and couldn’t breathe with the idea of her dying. Ironic that it actually became cancer and there wasn’t anything we could do to stop it. Doesn't make me cry nearly as much now that she's gone; makes me feel closer to her, actually. I know that I miss her, different ways, different days. I sometimes wonder if she's moved on without me now that she knows no pain or if she misses me too.

My mum died of uterine cancer when I was 8 y.o. Now I am almost 50 and there is no way for me to forget her 4 year fight, suffering so cruelly to that awful and deteriorating illnes. I remember her, hugging me in her lap, kissing me, showing her love every day. I can still smell her scent, so fresh and nice. This scene is so real, Jenna captures the very essence of a child saying goodbye to the person who would always be there for you no matter what. So deep. 😢😢😢😢👏👏👏👏👏👏

I am so sorry for your loss. I never believed in that saying "time heals all wounds" because I believe that people spend the rest of their lives grieving the loss of a loved one. But that's ok. There's no expiration date on grief. The intensity of the pain may lessen over time, but the memory lives on. Thank you for sharing your fond memories of your mother and I hope you have peace in your life.

Today I watched the movie for the first time and although I am adult already every single word she said to her kids, made me cry. Movie just brought every special moments that expecting me including My Mama meeting with my girlfriend, attending in my/and sister's wedding, me looking at my kid for the first time. these moments she will miss, but I hope she will see from the sky. This was one of the first and biggest and most memorable scenes in a movie to ever make me tear up/cry in a movie at all. As a survivor of cancer multiple times, it touches my heart and soul a bit more than some people I think if possible and also, the first cancer i had was when i was 6 months old at a time when babies died from that type of cancer, but i didn't...makes me think about my parents having to say goodbye to me or the opposite but under circumstances of cancer smh a very tough and sad thing to think about, but a beautiful scene that still touches the heart. I always get choked up when the daughter, Anna, says "I don't want to say goodbye; I'm gonna miss you so much." 😢

This scene is so heartbreaking but I can relate because I lost both my mom and dad at a young age it's terrible it never really goes away you just have to learn to live with it and carry on.

Im waiting on serious lab results. My first were so abnormal he had me redo them. This is also abnormal so im having to go see him to discuss them. This movie came to mind as I have 3 kids. I cried few minutes in the bathroom because I am scared not of what will happen to me but because they are babies. They are too young to even remember me if anything happened. I cant even imagine them with a stepmom or anything. I hope they do well. Im praying for good health though because Im tough enough to pull through a lot. Im positive this will not be the outcome.

I wish I had had the opportunity to properly say good bye, it would be hard, but I'd have the peace of mind that I told her everything I wanted to. I'd have told her that i love her and I'll miss her, that I'll do everything in my power to never forget her.

I cried when I watched this scene, and I hardly cry at any movies. A performance can do that to you, it was real and heartbreaking. Susan Sarandon is such great actress, she was definitely not acting , she was living the character of Jackie. She is beautiful, charming. I admire her beauty so much.❤️

Hands down the most devastating (and beautiful) film ever made. The actors make it SO believable. The last scene in the bedroom with the children is absolutely heart wrenching. I can't watch this film too often because it breaks my heart. I know it has a real positive meaning behind it (namely, the children are losing their mother, but have a good life, and a good father/step mother who will forever love and guide them), but it's still so sad because so many people have experienced this in real life. It IS real life.

My Mom died from cancer. I was 17 when she was diagnosed and one week after I turned 21, she was gone. The pain of losing her never went away. I come here to cry and I think of my son who is 21. I don't want him to feel that kind of pain at such a young age. God has been good to me regarding my health and I pray for continued good health.

You know I'm 36 years old my mom died when I was 22 from complications of a massive stroke I'm physically disabled so not only with my mother my stable parent but she was also my caregiver I saw this film as a kid but I never really appreciated it now that I'm the age that I am that I have a person that I love that loves me deeply that I'm about to embark on a New journey of going back to college I really have been thinking about my mom a lot and I miss her just as much now as I did then but it's because she's not physically here for these milestones that are beginning to happen in my life and this scene just every time that I see it from the day that my mom died it always gets to me because the emotion and the specific way that this scene was handled is exactly how I know that my mom would have handled her death if we had had previous notice that a massive stroke was going to occur as I said I'm 36 years old and I still live everyday every moment every second every scintilla of affecting every millisecond just trying to make her proud and I never will stop trying to do so

When I was nearly 14 I lost my mum because of skin cancer (melanoma). A girl needs her mum more than a dad. Mum is like air. If there's no air you can't breathe. A few years later I lost my grandpa because of cancer. In 2017 I lost my favorite uncle because of a heart attack. I live with my grandma. I have a brother and a father but I don't have good relationships with them. Death loves my family. I feel so depressed and very lonely. I am alone with my problems. Friends do not need sad people. No one understands me.

Hello Justyna...I hope with the passing of 5 months the place you were in with your loneliness and pain has shifted into a more hopeful energy. I've had numerous forms of cancer (melanoma too) and had to deal with Breast cancer without any loving family and few distant friends. I remember letting go of my fear and pain a little by just allowing the World of strangers here and there to give me moments of gratitude and care. At the time I did have a therapist to support me. You said "friends do not need sad people"...whereas I feel if I cannot be sad and show the real me ... then the person in front of me is not a real friend. "Those that mind don't matter in our lives...and those that matter don't mind giving us time to talk and be ourselves. Also I have found that in the privacy of a quiet place I have written letters of pain/anger and at times love to those who have passed on. Then I have burnt them, to maybe write again further down the line. I know from experience that at times I've been watched over in spirit, and it's given me comfort....do what you can with what you have ...where you are.

I cried too but then I had children of my own, and I realized how insignificant and pompous death is against the love I have for them. Death cannot stop it. Death cannot change it. That Love will go on when I and they and this world are dust.

I lost both women I considered mom. My biological mother passed away in 2017 from her 9th stroke. Although he was in my life I never truly considered her my mom. That tittle fell to my Grandma because she was ALWAYS there. I lost her in 2019. I miss them both so much.

I remember watching this movie around Christmas time, my family was in the house. My aunt and my mom came in the living room talking, saw what I was watching when I was like 15 and I remember my aunt saying "Oh, this movie really touched me! It's about a mom who suffers from cancer and in this scene she says goodbye to her kids". Unfortunately, my aunt who smoked cigarettes after cigarettes died of lung cancer a few years after this moment. I'll always think of my aunt eventually saying goodbye to her only daughter when I see Susan Surandon and Jena Malone in this scene!

Oh! I know what she means by that, because I feel just the same about my daughter...I have never loved anybody like that before. Of course I love my family, my mom, my sister, my dad and my husband but my daugter makes me stronger and go on despite hard times, when I'm with her I do things I wouldn't do with anybody else. She is that happiness I've been looking for my whole life.
