My Dad had cancer. My sister, brother, and I were not supposed to be here because he was diagnosed at 17 and we were all conceived in his late 20's, early 30's. That "Not Today" is so true when a doctor tells you, you have months to a year to live. I love this movie. "Life is a Gift, Death is a Promise. "

This is one of my all time fave movies. Little did I know my life would relate so much. My mom has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and six months to live. This movie brings comfort and some good ideas for quality time with my mom before she goes to heaven. I’m really thankful this movie was made!

Rachel Wyatt Very sorry to hear to that.Death is never an easy thing to handle no matter whether it's a sudden car accident,or a long fight with a terminal disease like cancer.We know that one day our loved one's will pass away but when it happens we just can't come to the realization that their life is over and we have to continue living without them.I'll be keeping your family,your mom,and you in my prayers.Who knows?Maybe a miracle can fix it.But if not I pray that your Mother will be recieved in Glory by Christ himself,your desceased relatives,and tended to by angels.May God grant you and your Mom all the necessary strength,peace,endurance,and serenity to press forward in hope and in love. To the Wyatt Family.

I really loved how Jackie brilliantly spun the conversation to test Isabel. I doubt she left those tickets there on purpose for Isabel to find but I liked how you could see Jackies mind work as Isabel got angry over the wrong idea and it was that moment where she was like, "Oh this little girl is going to snoop and stir up drama, ok let's play this out and see if she shows me her true colors". Then the realization that Isabel, a career driven woman whom has never needed to make others a priority, actually cares about Luke and the children, probably floored her. So it doesn't surprise me that she came clean after Isabel let her guard down and admitted the devastation to Luke and the kids if they moved to opposite ends of the country. It's the 'below the surface' moments like these that really makes this movie such a classic.

This scene is so powerful because it really touches the feels as you see it play out. Jackie really tested Isobel here, she knows she’s dying and Isobel is their future if she stays in the family. I don’t think she expected this reaction, or knew just how much she actually adored the ex husband and the kids. I guess this was a relief for the both of them in a way

Maybe she was. I don't see why she'd let her think she was going to move away to L.A. without risking her telling the husband and kids about it and getting them all shocked and angry when it wasn't true. All Jackie had to do was tell Isabelle that wasn't true and wasn't any of her business why she was going to L.A. before revealing she was going there for treatment.

Yeah this movie really does teach you to not take those you love especially your own mum for granted. We all should embrace one and another and use the time we have because life is unfortunately short. I lost my Mum in 2014 to cancer and losing her, made me go into the darkest place of my life but i learnt to grieve and appreciate every minute because that what mum would've wanted. So what i am trying to say is that don't take life for granted because you never know what will happen in your lives.

There are a bunch of tiny little things that make this scene so real and believable, which is why it's so good and relatable. When Julia Roberts talks about Luke being devastated, the way she chokes on that word as she tries to get it out. She continues with 'and if...' and then stops herself because she's so upset she can't even finish her thought. This is how real life conversations often go. It's never a perfect script of words that flow together succinctly. The choice to have her just stop mid-sentence was brilliant and makes this scene more realistic.

This is an interesting scene. Jackie leads Isabel on to believe she really is moving away, but it's a lie. She's trying to make Isabel squirm until she does squirm, then Jackie backs off out of compassion and tells her the truth. She could've told Isabel the truth in the 1st place, but chose to hurt her instead.
@Gemmarose9012
@Gemmarose9012 3 жыл бұрын
She wasn’t choosing to hurt Isabel. She was protecting her children from the fact that she was dying. If she was actually trying to hurt her there would have been zero compassion when she cried. Jackie knew it was time to surrender to the fact that it was all bigger than her and she couldn’t handle it alone anymore.

Jackie is but a thorn in both her ex-husband and Isabel's lives at the beginning of the movie. She couldn't accept the fact they're in love and are engaged to be married. Her biggest obstacle is jealously, and it's eating inside of her. Jackie's inferiority toward Isabel causes much heartache and views her unfavorably as a future stepmother. I believe she wouldn't accept Isabel, or any other woman other than herself and her ex, to be a surrogate with the kids. She has a mean, callous streak about her, and it's her nature to play hardball with two people who are madly in love with one another.

This film was so strange. On one level it’s an incredibly moving story of how gross it gets when a partner ends a marriage leaving behind children to pursue a midlife crisis. Then the one left behind gets sick eventually dies. Through yielding to the “new” wife knowing she will be the torch for the rest of her children’s maturity into adulthood and beyond as she dies. Sarandon gave an astonishing performance full of pathos and tension. Her actor children and Ed Harris were completely believable. Roberts was a strange casting in so many ways and turned the film into something a bit too optimistic to be believable. In short the film became one of those orange glow shot 1990’s tear jerkers yet hid a little too much in some kind of radiance. Radiance never is there when children lose their families like this. It’s as if Roberts insert was based on beauty and selfishness versus a heart of gold. I think the film should had gone another route. Perhaps with a more comic beauty that was more of a fashion designer versus photographer for banal model shoots. Then they could have made Sarandon a more difficult mother who had more of an OCD control issue and thus her passing was a release of a life fraught. Whenever they martyr the first wife it makes the second wife impossible to respect in these films. And when they celebrate it the whole affair becomes survivalist beyond.
