One of the most inspirational songs of my life, it inspired me to take up electric bass. Practiced day and night to get the notes of George Biondo just right. Would love to play this live someday. Thanks so much for this wonderful video!

When I was a kid, and this album was first produced the intro always confused me because I heard a shift in the beat halfway through the intro. Then one day I was just listening to the song and something in the bridge caught my attention. It was the same beat pattern that was at the beginning of the song!! Bingo! No more confusion!

Wonderful, thanks. Been working at it, but just couldn’t find all the puzzle pieces, and put them to curved misery to finish the tapestry. Great job, love SW music. Rather complex it it’s simplicity. Still listen to them on a regular basis. Thanks again.

I'm a big fan from back in the day. I learned bass listening to this band. I'm surprised as well it didn't go higher on the charts. Ride with Me on the For Ladies Only album was also a great song that didn't do as well as it should have.

@jbl5050 It's one of my all time favorite Steppenwolf songs. You did it perfect justice. Larry Byrom and Kent Henry were two of my favorite Steppenwolf guitarists. Great slide players too. Nashville chicken pickin' styles similar to Mountains' Leslie West.

The first rock n roll album I ever owned I won on the boardwalk in seaside Heights NJ. Cost me a quarter for a spinning wheel game. I won Steppenwolf- with BTBW on it. I don't know that the album had a title. Always loved the song Everybody's Next One. Your work on this song is great. Lot of fills and riffs. Not like the mass produced drum machine stuff today.

Gary: No one does Steppenwolf covers as well as you. No one! This is a really great song and you did it perfectly. I have a question for you, or anyone else out there: What guitar effects pedal(s) would you recommend to get that "Steppenwolf" sound? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks so much (and I would love to hear "Desperation" but I know what a pain that would be to get it down right--but if anyone can do it, it is you). Thanks again. You rule! Cheers.
@jbl50506 жыл бұрын
HI. JIm. Thanks so much for the view and awesome comment. I really appreciate it. I don't think I really used a lot of pedals other than a compressor on any of these songs. Seems the thing I most used to come close to any of these sound wise would be a Telecaster. Although not used on everything of course I seem to hear one quite often on a lot of their songs. I'll be glad to give Desperation a fresh listen and see if I think I could do it justice. I had The Ostrich about 90% worked up a few months ago but for some reason never got back on it. Thanks again!!
@jeemalsoknownasjimhawkins12946 жыл бұрын
Gary: I love The Ostrich and no one has done a cover on that yet. I think it would be really great if you got that posted. And thanks for the info on using a Compressor. Do you have any particular recommendation of a brand? Again, no one plays Steppenwolf (one of the most under-appreciated bands of all time) like you, so I am really glad you are doing it. Thanks, again! Cheers.
@jbl50506 жыл бұрын
I just have a little inexpensive Boss CS 3. But I don't want to tell you that that would get the sound you're looking for. Really I think that would come more from your guitar and amp set up than just buying a pedal. If you have a Strat or a Tele that would be a good place to start and then try and dial in the tone with your guitar and amp. Good luck!

Great cover, everything is spot on! I have one question. Did you use tabs or did you learn by ear?
@jbl50504 жыл бұрын
Hi friend and thanks so much for the views and comments on the Steppenwolf songs! I just learn things by ear. A lot of times I slow the songs way down to pick out certain parts which helps a lot..
@awittypilot89617 жыл бұрын
Atta boy! One of my favorite all time tunes and you're right.....it didn't get the recognition it should have. There's a lot of guitar parts in this tune....it's really impossible to put it down with one pass and one guitar. I gotta ask....do you use software to slow your tunes down to get all the notes? I use Song Surgeon....you can slow the song down to any speed and play parts over and over until you get it right. The software lets you change the speed and or loop any part without changing the pitch. I have a pretty good ear but at full speed it's a lot harder to pick up the little stuff that can be very important. Most all tunes have a signature riff that makes the song and finding and getting that right is everything. You got this one down really well. I asked you to look at this tune a few weeks ago and appreciate you doing it. Sorry but I'm going to have to steal some of the parts from you! hehe By the way, there's another very good software by the same people called Video Surgeon that you can slow the vid down as slow as you want and study the parts you want and it works well but you have to have a pretty good computer to run it. My laptop won't run it smoothly. Thanks for nailing this one! Rock on!
@jbl50507 жыл бұрын
Hey my friend. Great to hear from you again. I was wondering if you were still around as it's been a while now since I last heard from you. As always thanks for the view and nice comment. As far as what I use to pick out parts, not sure if you are running a Windows based system or a Mac. In Windows I use the included Media Player which has a dropdown at the top. One of the tabs is labeled "Enhancements" under that tab is several options with one being speed settings. You can either slow down or speed up the song and keep pitch like you said. Only drawback is not being able to loop which sounds like your program does. That would be a nice option to have. I will definitely look into your suggestion on this program. Once again thanks and great hearing from you...
@awittypilot89617 жыл бұрын
Yeah...I really like Song surgeon.....it's not expensive and it really works well. Like I said...they also have a video version but it takes a lot of computer to run it smoothly. I do watch your vids sometimes daily because I jam with them. It's made a really big difference in my playing. We have a lot of the same taste in music. I'm still working on putting a band together. My buds don't want to be obligated to anything serious because we all have real jobs too and none of us want's to play out ending up in a bar till after 2:00 am so we're just working on jam sessions right now. We have bass and 2 lead players...me being one of them (the other guy is a better player for now and he can sing....) and we have a drummer lined up but he's probably not going to be permanent. But at least we have something going on. I live in Wyoming and it's not easy to find other musicians locally. It's a hit and miss thing and even if you do find anyone they're usually a lot younger. I'm 61 and my buddies are right there with me so no young guys have any interest in getting anything going that wouldn't be at least weekly gigs. But we're doing something anyway! hehe Keep em coming bro....I'm diggin it......another suggestion.....Pat Benetar Treat me Right....fun tune with a couple cool licks in there.
@jbl50507 жыл бұрын
I can definitely relate to the whole trying to put a band together thing. I'm around your age myself and have tried several times over the past few years to get a band back together if even to play a time or two a month. Have pretty much finally just given up on the idea. I think it's much harder now to do it that 30 years ago. Of course everyone has obligations and that makes things more difficult than before. I will definitely give the Song Surgeon a try and appreciate the tip. Well need to get to work. Later....
