@@mikebrookfield it’s funny Mike after I learned this, hideaway, little girl and rambling on my mind I came across your channel. The beano album is like going to blues school. You did a great job on all this stuff and made it really accessible to your audience. Thank you. Stepping out is one of those songs I use to warm up. I always want to keep it close to the surface, and prevent it from getting lost in the shuffle - because it was a major accomplishment to learn. I saw Joe Perry about 6 months ago and he told the audience that he had to play it for his guilty little pleasure. All the greats always reference claptons version of stepping out. I remember hearing it for the first time when I was a kid thinking how ferocious his playing was on this track. This and hideaway are where it’s at! Also I had a teacher who is expert in Clapton and especially cream. When I was learning the cuts off this album he was as excited as I was. He wanted to do every track on the album - I came close, lol. I did learn another great cut from around that time as well. The one that him and Jimmy page recorded called West cost idea.

Good Christ! - This level is simply beyond me... Very, very nicely done. Eric Clapton at his absolute peak IMO. Clapton is an absolute perfectionist. His playing is flawless. I've seen him dozens of times live and never once heard a technical mistake I recognized. He sold more Les Paul guitars than Gibson. Hendrix was amazing in the studio. Live? Firstly, tune the instrument. Next, get reliable equipment. Flash is great, but we're talking mastery here and that includes both studio and live.

That weird timing thing he does in the raking part is pure Clapton. Mike I always thought that It Hurts To Be In Love from the Primal Solos album is one of the best, most pure solos ever. Perfection with that syncopation thing he does. Used to do. Make a great lesson. Jay

Great stuff, Mike! I remember your Steppin' Out and Hideaway videos from way back with the metronome :) Brilliant to get an update on this one. I really liked the tip about going through the cycle of fiths to nail tricky licks. Looking forward to the next series!

Mike; I'll leave all the comments about how great this series is (that I fully agree with) to everyone else, I'm jazzed about your short clips in and around Howth. One of my favourite places in the world! I have family in Raheny so I've spent lots of time in the neighbourhood including Bull Island and Howth.

Excellent series of videos Mike. Fair play to you for the hard work and time that you put into these. This particular track is one of my favorites. I have plucked up the courage a few times over the years to play my best attempt of this one during some small pub gigs and it always goes down reasonably well. However, my version had a lot more “basic pentatonic improvising” because I just couldn’t pick out those really fast Clapton licks. So I’m gonna study this video in great detail and upgrade my version of this tune big time! Thanks mate!

Great job Mike. You really put together a great series and Steppin Out is definitely the big one. It's interesting how on the Live Cream album Clapton changed that main riff just a tad to make it really rock. Live Cream was an album I wore out and the reason was Steppin Out.

The original's recording is not so clean and yours is great and it helps a lot. 2 questions: do you think i can play D and F on B string in stand of G and B strings at 15:07 What blues song would you recommand after this one?

Michael Read you can download the TAB from sheet music direct for less than $5... @@mikebrookfield Many thanks for that. You've no idea how difficult I've made it for myself being dazzled by your fingers, slowing down the refresh rate to 0.5% and still being dazzled by your fingers. Ears? I don't necessarily trust them all the time. Many thanks again.

It all adds up.. I have transcribed things wrong in the past from records but the process still improved my ear and the imperfect licks still brought my playing forward.. its all good... keep on it & as Brian Eno says 'trust in the artist you are now'... KiB 🔥
