People who know drummer Steve Smith from Journey probally don't realize he was trained in jazz at Berklee in Boston and is really at his best in the Jazz/Fusion environment. What a solid drummer.

Well, he was Jean-Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean" album a few years before he joined Journey. However, I do think most people know this about Smith, and, many people way after the "Simon Phillips", "Terry Bozzio" and "Dennis Chambers" eras have no idea..., even though Simon, Terry and Steve all played within the same era.

Greatest at what? It's all about taste. There are thousands of really good sax/reed players out there, all over the world. To me, Brecker was ok, although no Wayne Shorter. Yes, the reason why he is so famous is something of a mystery to me (much like with Steve Gadd).

1曲目のBeirut(ベイルート)は何度聴いても圧巻です。

The greatest Modern Jazz/Fusion guitarist in the world. I mean, he's played with two of the biggest legends in instrumental music; Miles Davis and Michael Brecker. Although he has other excellent guitarists in this style with their own language, such as Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth. In addition to playing and improvising masterfully, Mike Stern also has an absurd charisma.

RIP

A tremendous concert!! Fusion at the highest level! For me, maybe the best fusion band after Weather Report ... My favourite guitarist Mike Stern, even it is not the focal point, in a very solid sideman performance...
