Mainieri is so under appreciated. A stellar musician, composer, and player. He should be spoken about in the same regard as Brecker, Metheny, et al. What a player!!

People who know drummer Steve Smith from Journey probally don't realize he was trained in jazz at Berklee in Boston and is really at his best in the Jazz/Fusion environment. What a solid drummer.

Well, he was Jean-Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean" album a few years before he joined Journey. However, I do think most people know this about Smith, and, many people way after the "Simon Phillips", "Terry Bozzio" and "Dennis Chambers" eras have no idea..., even though Simon, Terry and Steve all played within the same era.

Hard to imagine a higher level of creativity, skill, soul from such a miraculous band. Michael still had years to go from this concert until his death, but seeing this spectacular display from him makes his loss so painful for those of us still here! So lucky we can watch and relive and treasure!

Greatest at what? It's all about taste. There are thousands of really good sax/reed players out there, all over the world. To me, Brecker was ok, although no Wayne Shorter. Yes, the reason why he is so famous is something of a mystery to me (much like with Steve Gadd).

Mike est un bon gros bébé de 65 ans aujourd'hui il restera toujours pour moi cette grande intelligence musicale que j'aurai tant aimé avoir il est un roi dans l'univers de la musique. c'est un être merveilleux, merci a lui de ne pas me dénigrer, il est digne et il aime ceux qui non pas son talent.

Ah les années 80, quelle époque !!!! Steve Smith (dm) avec des cheveux, les chemises bouffantes, j'adore le tee-shirt de Daryl Jones (b) ... L'électronique très présente (EWI de M.Brecker, synthés divers, triggers sur la batterie ... ), toute la panoplie sonore de ces années folles ... Superbe concert, je les avais vus à cette époque en Hollande au North Sea Jazz Festival, la claque ! J'adore ce groupe que je suis depuis ses débuts avec S. Gadd (dm), Eddie Gomez (cb), Don Grolnick (p) ... Que du bonheur, ils ont de la chance ces Ricains, un grand groupe malheureusement disparu ... De superbes compositions ...

Very cool to see this video. Never got the chance to see Smith play with this band. the whole band sounds amazing. Very cool to see Stern play with them too and of course D. Jones on bass. Solid. Thanks for posting .. a real treat. The Japanese fans really know music and they love jazz. So this looks to be a large concert event.. really great to see a quality video with excellent sound done of this show.. pretty much timeless. I dig hearing their use of the 80's tech in the music. It's tasteful and not over done.

This is the concert that I heard about 14 years ago,and still can't get over, how magical,beautiful, skilfully it is. All musicians separately are just top! I enjoy very much every time I hear it! Also still very much sorry that Mr. Brecker has gone. Great loss for music,and his family!

The greatest Modern Jazz/Fusion guitarist in the world. I mean, he's played with two of the biggest legends in instrumental music; Miles Davis and Michael Brecker. Although he has other excellent guitarists in this style with their own language, such as Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth. In addition to playing and improvising masterfully, Mike Stern also has an absurd charisma.
