When my Mercedes is pristine enough to worry about the clock, I will know I have made it in life.

It is wonderful to sit inside a Mercedes and just listen to clock tick, similar to a heartbeat. It is a very peaceful experience, thinking about how many years the clock has been making that sound, it’s incredible! Thank you Pierre for helping us keep that tick going!

Awesome Pierre, this is the last thing I need to fix on my dash. Up to now I was satisfied the clock was correct twice a day, but now I will attempt to fix it. Ron F

I wish to differ slightly on the servicing of the clock. I have played with a small amount of these and I’ve found the main problem to be the soldiered fuse as Pierre spoke about. I did have one that was seized as Pierre discussed, but I found the problem to be dirt. The mechanism should be cleaned with a safe spirit spray. You will surprised how much dirt comes out with the cleaner. The next and most important thing is to lube all the little moving areas with a proper oil designed for clocks, and its called Clock oil. It’s a little expensive for the small amount you receive, but worth it. Apply it with an implement that can reach all the moving cogs and the little bushes the move with or on, do you get me? The motor only winds the spring mechanism and repeats the process as the spring winds down Then you have to calibrate the clock. It has a small + and - screw on the back. I powered the clock ( used an old 12v power adaptor) and set it and let it run for 24 hrs. See if it’s fast or slow and adjust the screw, then reset the time and let it run again for 24 hrs and adjust and repeat again. Very hard to get it to perfect time like a modern clock but mine runs for a week and only gains 1 minute if that much. Good luck and enjoy the satisfaction of getting not only getting the clock to work but also to be really accurate. Remember, Clean and CLOCK OIL!!

Good morning, well its morning in Berlin, anyway , I stumbled on your video and I must say,how refreshing the way you present your channels on KZbin. I've just bought my first mercedes (w123 230ce),and now thanks to your program I know I made the right decision in buying a mercedes benz, after looking at many classic cars, with a small budget on hand I finally found the car that made sense. Kind regards Alex

I've read where mineral oil is good for lubricating the movements on automotive clocks.

Awesome video! As I am in the middle of restoring a W115 240D, this info may very well be quite useful, thanks Pierre! I also agree with you in that I really prefer to put things back original, unless there is absolutely no other way. Soulless is right.

I was very pleased that the clock in the Kenji Benz runs very well. I felt it was indicative of the car that car had received over its lifetime.

What causes a w124 clock to work wrong. Mine recently started to not keeping up with the actual time.

Wonder if you can do the same for the W110 series clocks? Mine runs slow about 5 to 10 min per day, and in cold weather will actually stop!

Is a 1972 350SL R107 clock similar to the clock in the video? Mine doesn’t work but I would like to repair it if it isn’t overly difficult or expensive.

Hey Pierre, Any idea what is causing my 73' R107 4.5 to run extremely rich? Smells like fuel and leaves black soot on the concrete when it idols. Already replaced all injectors, fuel pump, cap, rotor, coil, plugs, and wires. Love the videos by the way!!
