Anyone else notice during this video pierre has this calmness about him like Bob Ross painting.. Pierre obviously has this down to an art instead paint on his hands grease instead. A true zen master ! Just waiting for his next book " Zen and the art of Mercedes preservation"

It all started for me tinkering with electronics with the best album ever- Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon. I have original pressing vinyl I’ve been listening to on good equipment since ‘94. You can’t listen to a masterpiece with junk equipment.

I did exactly this few years ago on both W201. I am not in electronics and I have been able to fix both W201 clocks my 1985 had only one capacitor and the other was a 1992 that had 2 capacitors. It is not hard to do. What it is hard is to stay very CALM as Pierre was doing in part 1 and 2 videos. I stayed calm while removing the cluster, unscrew everything then fixing the clock. What a joy to see it work after all the pain! And Pierre, oui, yes I did painted my needles!! 😂😂😂 I used artist water base fluorescent orange with a light coat of varnish. They never fade thru the years!

I think we should all consider leaving our prized Mercedes to Pierre in our will .... I know he would make shure the car was cared for and preserved.

Thank you Pierre! My Odometer and Clock were broken when I purchased a 84 380sl last December, Boy I hate having to log all my miles through my phone, I will try this method and post on Benzworld, this surely helped alot.

Awesome video ... we should all get you a ceiling mounted camera to zoom in on some of those technical aspects of this rebuild. Great topic!

I replaced the capacitors in my w123s clock last weekend, it’s the first time the needles have moved in at least 16 years! Surprisingly, one of the old capacitors was still good after 35 years (but I replaced it anyway, since taking it apart is not something I want to do twice). Next on the list: have the Becker radio rebuilt with an AUX input...

Pierre, your content is top notch. I wish your videographer was better though. When you talk about a specific component or wire, or screw, the camera should be showing that part being discussed.

Yes, the best thing would be to mount the camera overhead.

3rd time attempting the post ( in case it show up 3 times ) Frako is still making things out of Germany, easy to search their name for site. North American distributor seems to be industrial only, maybe contact Frako to see if they still make smaller sizes. Much appreciate the videos. I guess that the two capacitors for the clock are bi-polar ones ( no polarity ) ?

Pierre its important that the capacitors are flush with the board for aesthetics, but also for current flow the shorter the leads the better the current can flow.

I’m sure you know: There’s a product called helping hands soldering tool $8 on Amazon. There are pens you can repair the electrical trace circuits. I have a link for that lol.

I’ve seen some Farad capacitors on eBay. Farad has a website, idk if they carry small stuff- they have an overseas phone number. On some reel to reel forums they are saying Farad isn’t great quality. I’m interested learning this stuff anyway. Update: I can’t find any Frako brand. Amazon has Bojack brand with same capacity and voltage values. 100uf 16v ***No lunch required***

Pierre, I take it the clock repair is the same for the W123 series?

I prefer to think that you set the clock to m-i-d-n-i-g-h-t. Just saying. . . . 😎
