@@DJJDSKREWED ok, Buy the most cfm's you can afford. My compressor produces around 16 cfm I believe it's a 60 gallon but that doesn't matter as much as the air production and hp. More horse power the quicker your compressor will recover. For painting it's all about the cfm's. Hope this helps there's alot of other factors to consider when buying a compressor. Im restoring a C10 and doing prep work. I have a Devillbiss FLG5. Been trying to decide what to do about the compressor issue. Its a one time paint job. Dont want to buy a big compressor for a one time job. Dont want to buy a small compressor and not have the low CFM issue and dont really need a compressor for anything really. I think Im going to rent a compressor from a tool rental shop. Ive never seen any KZbin channel mention this option. They rent 15CFM gas powered compressors for $150 a week or $60/day. Have the CFM needed, no big outright compressor purchase, no big compressor collecting dust when Im done. Just need a hose, filters, pressure gauge.

I couldn't tell from the video, but I regularly would wet the floor with some water to keep down and trap dust on the floor. I painted several hundred cars in a homemade cross draft booth and would always spray a mist of water on the floor and walls to wage war on the ever present dust. Nice video. Great video! Looks like these guns spray very nice. When compressor size is not an issue, would this be a better gun when compared to the HF black widow or an entry level Iwata? I ask because I will be spraying a classic VW van using an inflatable booth, that is slow removing the overspray. The van bolt on panels will be sprayed first then later the roof and then the body. With the R500 gun would I still get good results with the larger panels on the van. Would the parts dry time be an issue with a smaller fan and possibly spraying at a slower speed? I will like to be able to follow the paint wet edge without the clouds of paint in the air and it looks to me that one of the benefits of this gun is not having a thick cloud in the air. Greatly appreciate your advice.
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
You do get less overpray with the R500 but do sacrifice a bit of speed. You can increase your speed with the R500 by reducing the spraying distance. For your situation I think I would use the R500 on the loose part and the black widow on the body of the vehicle. You can get just as nice of a finish with the R500 tho. It sounds like a fun project shoot me some photos after paint. I might be able to share with the community. Garagenoise247@gmail.com

@@GarageNoise thank you for your advice! Would the R500 be able to do the body as well? The roof will be the largest panel i will be spraying first by itself. I ask because I will be afraid of having different texture using two different guns. I saw another video about the R 500 a few years old, and the person did not recommend this gun for a complete job because it doesn’t have enough volume and will leave dry edges when working large areas constantly, according to him. Looking at your videos looks to me that is capable. I think spraying a little slower may help me focus on how things are laying down, don’t know if that makes sense. I will definitely send you some pictures of the process. Thank you again!

@Daniel Medrano I use my astro HE for base coat. I have a brand new one sitting in the box waiting to replace it. That Kiwami 4 lasted a year just spraying clear. I bought 2 at the same time. The second one is still in the box. The R500 I've used twice and it laid down the clear very well and was 65.00 that Kiwami4 was 187.00. Could buy 3 R500's for the price of the Kiwami just saying.

I think the air consumption is way overstated and wrong on these types of spray guns. I use a Husky air compressor rated at 4.5 gpm and these guns based on the R500 no way uses just 3.5 to 4 per minute. Another KZbinr said these guns actually use 7.5 to 8 gpm of air. That explains why I can’t get a constant flow of spray paint for any considerable amount of time. Would be nice to have an episode on actual air consumption is compaired to what the manufacturers claim it is.

I think your right. I believe these guns are around 7-10 as well. The orig R500 is on the low end on that number tho

Hi great video. I’ve read for paint spraying the minimum cfm is around 12. Would this gun work with a small compressor, if so can anyone recommend which size/brand. Which compressor was used in this video, please. I’ve been looking at HVLP turbine units for painting but compressor/ gun setups seem quieter, give a finer finish and are perhaps less costly.
@GarageNoise2 жыл бұрын
Personally I would go with a compressor gun set up. Yes , this gun will only require around 5 cfm's of air to spray properly, that's what's so unique about this gun. So most 20 gallon compressors will work well. I always recommend getting the most cfm's you can afford. I use a large compressor and don't have any recommendations for a small compressor at this time.hope this helps appreciate the support!

if you have a compressor say 20 to 30 gal if you have it put out at least 6 to 8 cfms at 40 psi when you turn the pressure down at the gun say 18 to 22 or so you now have double the cfms because you're not going to spray 40 lb at the gun unless you're using a siphon feed gun
@GarageNoise2 жыл бұрын
Yes, your gun needs the same cfm's but now that you've lowered the air pressure you won't need as much air to keep your gun spraying at peak performance.

@@GarageNoise please run that by me again. I have 70 litre 3.5 hp 290 litre per minute output compressor. The paint I'm going to use requires 35psi, are you saying that I can spray the same paint at say 20psi and it will still spray properly. Thanks in advanced
@GarageNoise2 жыл бұрын
@@TashaRandom123 if your using base coat / clearcoat. The type of paint you use isn't what requires a certin air pressure. The paint gun is what has air requirements in order to operate efficiently. So as long as you have the right air pressure from the compressor to operate the paint gun then you can spray the paint adjusting the air pressure coming out of the gun to whatever you want. Typically for base it's 15-20psi and for clear around 30psi at the gun. Hope this helps, appreciate the support!

Would this paint gun perform well in painting a car with a 6 gallon compressor?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
6 gallon is a bit small. You ideally want about 6cfm at minimum to paint a whole car.
@joaquin002311 ай бұрын
@@GarageNoiseI have a 6 gallon compressor but I’m only painting a small bumper. It’s rated at 3.7 cfm at 40psi but max will probably be 30 psi. So that should bump up the cfm closer to 4. This should be good enough for this gun right? It says it needs 3.0 to 3.9 cfm. And its operating pressure is 2 to 3.5 bar. Is the operating pressure correlated to the cfm requirement? If so it would be 3 cfm at 29.4 psi (2 bar) which should be enough.

@GarageNoise Question. The LVLP R500 only comes with a 1.3mm nozzle. I am looking to paint my truck. The color is currently GM U 213M. I am planning to go back with that color. The clearcoat has come off in several places. The paint has come off in small pinprick spots. I am planning to sand it down and put primer, paint and then clear. 1. Will the LVLP R500 with its 1.3mm nozzle work for all 3? 2. If not which nozzles should I use for each one? I can purchase 1.5, 1.7 and 2.0 nozzles. 3. Also any primer, paint, and clear recommendations will be greatly appreciated. 4. do I need to sand it down to bare metal everywhere before spraying primer? thanks, Trav
@GarageNoise4 ай бұрын
OK, all great questions. Let me tell you the R 500 1.3 tip will work for sealer, base and clear coat perfectly well. Now, if you want to spray primer, depending on how thick the primer is, you're gonna need a 1.5 tip . For a primer surfacer, so that's a thinner primer. not a thick high build primer. Then you might be able to get away with a 1.3. Do you need to strip your truck? I think you said truck, that depends on the condition of your current paint. If the paint is checking or cracking, then you need to take it down to bare metal. If it's just these delaminating, there is a possibility that you could just sand it down and use A 2K urethne primer over top of that. If you want to send me pictures at garagenoise247@gmail.com. I can take a look at the pictures and try and help you out. Appreciate your comment and support!
