You can't get someone that has an addiction to quit, they have to want to quit on their own. Jail don't help and neither does rehab until a person is ready to do something about their addiction.

Exactly. If you force it they won’t do the work needed to quit.

Wait - the son didn’t know who he was?! Did his mother not tell him about him?! Was the son not informed of/invited to the wedding? If you have an unstable child, this can make the situation worse. Either she tries to support her child, and help him move forward - or she cuts her son (an adult) out of her life until he hits rock bottom - then he can realise for himself that he needs help.

This story makes no sense. A psychology teacher who doesn't understand addiction? He owns a car repair shop, who sells his car repair shop and gives away all of his money and doesn't keep anything to take care of himself.

A psychology professor who doesn't know about addicts' behavior? Well.... I would assume that he never saw the rest of the story coming... because he knows so much about human behavior....

fr. it sounds more like he was always on academia and never practiced. this guy... ngl, kinda sounds like a dolt. idk if this story is true. a psychology professor, auto parts store owner and now writer? and how did his step son enroll him in an old age home? dude had drug money and not much else than that. wouldn't you also need OP to sign documents? this whole story feels sus. oh and what about the restraining order? step son calling and showing up, aka repeatedly breaking said order. to many missing links.

@@pezchef7577 Points taken. Here's a test for you: Go ask a psychologist or psychiatrist what sanity is. You know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but this probably the first you've heard about it -- after it's nearly half over. Now that's a real problem....

@@theplaintech I'll make sure I ask at my next appointment on Friday. thanks for the test I'll be back with their response! oh and, yes, the company I work for was intent on all employees knowing it was mental health awareness month. so we good on that front too. cheers mate!

@@pezchef7577 I know that my HMO sent out an email on May 1 afternoon internally. However, there has been nothing since. They took note of it but have done absolutely nothing else with it, including mentioning it to their patients. Good luck with getting a definition of sanity. I've watched for years and never seen anyone define it. I know what it is and know how to achieve it, but why should I bother, since no one else seems to be interested?

The OP knew he had issues as well and donated the sale of his house money before dying ? He knew his sil was trash who didnt care his mum was dying but thought he would be respectful on the day of his mums funeral He knew he was not above getting his mates to ambush and attack him but expected respect after the mother died? This OP seems absolutely devoid of common sense.

You can’t blame the mother. She may have tried. I remember watching a murder show on ID, both parents saw their son was “troubled” and sought help for him. The father called him evil when he hurt his brother and then tried to drown his sister in the pool. The mother caught him as a grown man trying to SA her secretary. She rescued the woman. The parents in that story did what they could but like the age old saying is true, good help is hard to find. The story ends when the family turned in their serial killer son/brother to the police.

The son was ruined by his father. She should have taken him and left when he was little. You can not change behavior of someone that old. He has to see the behavior as wrong and want to change. If he behaves that way at home, I can't imagine how he behaved elsewhere. If he wants money, tell him to get a job. Until he wants to go to rehab, let him rot in jail.

😮 his mother did try to teach him right from wrong but was blocked by the father & Grandfather. Making her doubt herself. So blaming her is wrongful. The damage was done from the time his grandfather passed. Her current husband could not make changes in her son because he was set in his ways after is grandfather past. 😢

for a harsh truth, you are not his father and you don’t have to do anything for him even so you tried to help him, the same thing almost happened to me once, living in London is so expensive and flat share is the only way to save money and i shared a place with my friend for years and he had a son who lived somewhere else and he only came around for money and he was never friendly to me so we generally ignored each other every time he was around and unfortunately my friend died from cancer and the flat was rented and the Council asked for the flat back and I was planning to move out anyway, his son phoned up a couple of time wanting money from me to pay for his rent and I told him that we are not friends and family and I blocked him, I was not responsible for him and neither are you. Get along with you life and be happy.

Donating is a nice idea but Not to the point you cant pay bill or have a home to live in....If you are homeless how is that helping you ...The stepson is beyond repair .. He will never change or feel guilty of All his guilty deeds .. Live your life away from the evil step son.....Thank you for taking care of her before She died.... Don't give him a penny His addiction is his fault not Yours....You cant help a person like this...

It sounds like you have an addiction of your own. Donating. Normally that is not a bad thing but when you give it all away and then need money it is.

I do not think you should have donated all of your money. Each time it leaves you penniless. Since you are free of all encumbrances you should move far Way to a different staTe and block his number. You might need some of the money you donated for further medical treatment. You are far from being old and might need it.

The very FIRST people in your life are your parents. You have the ultimate responsibility to ensure they are compassionate, loving, RESPONSIBLE, and respectful human beings. This kid didn't get that. All the adults in this story failed him. That's just my take on this.
