This is so cool! I had an image in my mind, that some time soon in the future, the smokestacks of incinerators will capped with a large mushroom fruit-head like structure, both to cool the heated air and capture CO2, and also to catch as much of the toxic vapors as possible. And inside of the "gills" and folds of these mushroom inspired scrubbers, would possibly be real mushroom cultures lining the inner walls like replaceable cartridges (maybe selectively bred or gmo fungi created to neutralize toxins), and after a certain amount of time, there would be maintenance workers who come to collect these cartridges to safely dispose of the "spent" or grown mushrooms somewhere else they would be more useful, such as perhaps a concrete additive, and then replace them with fresh cartridges of young fungi like how you replace an old air purifier filter. Essentially you could turn an incinerator power plant or dump into a closed loop concrete farm with the help of mushroom remediation!!! In the future they will call our time the era of reckless pollution and "headless smokestacks" and what will seem obvious to them is something new and weird to us.

Really interesting to see how well the EM and compost/worm tea versions grew. Hope your future trials are just as successful.

Just now seeing this video but what might help with the spawn growth in the bottles is what you do for poly tubing that's been inoculated with spawn, poke some holes around the bottle to let the substrate/spawn get fresh air. If it's totally enclosed with no free air exchange and the moisture, bacteria grows a lot easier.

You should include the lime pasteurization method. That is what I use.

You definitely should try out soaking it in something acidic and something alkaline back and forth. Salts should form and release some thermal energy. Also, a swift change of the environments pHs would essentially break any bacteria or mycelium cells.

@Susan🔥𝐆𝐨 𝐓𝐨 𝐌𝐲 РR0FILЕ what I meant is that you should try soaking the straw in wood ash lye, and then, drying it.

Coooool!!!. Thks You use diluted EM or compost tea as you use in agriculture 1:10? O you use it concentratate? Thks again . Pablo from Uruguay

We re-grew EM1 to EM2 and used it as is we used normal strength compost tea. Two hand fulls of worm compost in 12 l strained through a sieve. Glad you liked it Pablo.

couldn't you sterilize the wet straw just by putting it in a clear container in the sun for day(s)? if the container is sealed heat and uv should do the work?
@workwithnature6 жыл бұрын
Actually did something similar by using old hessian bags by sticking them in the sun whilst turning them upside down & inside out for two hours each time. That worked well on a dark roof and grew plenty of mushrooms. I think it could work but one would need to flatten out the material and have a climate with a lot of sun. My only concern would be that if the temperature is brought up slowly then bacteria could cyst up in time to protect themselves. But definitely there ways around it like you are thinking.
