It was probably a cat that was already dead, though. I have raccoons come up on the porch and eat cat food and hang out with the neighborhood cats all summer and fall. (all of the cats are fixed, took multiple people and quite some time to pull that one off.)

The cat was probably already dead and they were just being opportunistic and raccoons aren’t pack dwellers unless it’s a mother and a child but traditionally raccoons don’t dwell in packs but they were probably competing to eat the cat and just because they ate the cat doesn’t mean they killed it.
