When it comes to docking…”slow is pro”. The format with real life drone feed en your remarks and notes is really working for me, thanks for taking the effort to make these videos! This is a great refresher training on docking techniques. Do you run flotiellja in summer as well?

Yep. Slow is indeed pro. Being in control is the key. Rapt that you like this format. It definitely takes preparation and effort, but I think it is worth it to help those of us who had never encountered this type of docking before sailing in this corner of the world! Regarding the flotilla's, we don't actually run them in summer. For a few reasons. One being the lack of wind. Two being the insane crowds out here in summer. And three being the cost of chartering. We run these flotilla's twice a year on either side of the summer season, in May and October.

Hi Nick, as you know so well, every boat you charter will behave differently. I find it alright entering the marina on the last day when I've had the entire week behind the helm and got used to the boat. The first couple of days however are the most challenging. Can you record a video in which you do particular "exercises" or manoeuvres with the boat that help you figure it's response out. What is there to check and try? I typically try a bit of reverse zig-zag to figure out how much it'll swing the bow over, for example...

Impressive live stream, thanks for that Nick. 👍 May I add a few points on the issue of docking etiquette. It is always good seamanship to put on shoes before docking and also wear a shirt or something and not be half naked. Compare getting into a marina with going to a restaurant. It has something to do with respect. What I also often see is the wrong flagging of boats. Pirate flags are placed on the starboard side, or one's own national flag on starboard at a Croatian boat. Some people in the harbour can be deeply offended by this. Perhaps a video on this topic would be helpful to explain where which flag goes and why. And which flag was placed completely wrong. 😁

I guess "good seamanship" is in the eye of the beholder. I prefer to think of it as being respectful to other sea-goers and the sea itself no matter what one is wearing. But then we are all different! And yes. Flags could be a good topic for a video. Maybe this winter I can shoot/edit/upload something. Watch this space.

Sometimes in the marina, I am asked to dock in a slot at the end of the pontoon. I can only enter the marina and go to the slot, I cannot overshoot the position and come back against the wind. Maneuvering in reverse is always the best solution, regardless of the wind direction?

Without understanding the position of the berth and wind direction it is hard for me to comment on that one I am sorry. I do not want to put you wrong!
