For some reason I thought of the whole plot; they used to date before the events of the first season, back when Steve was a douche and she was the shallow Lydia that hid her intelligence. They were distant and despite having strong feelings they drifted from each other because of the popularity and stupid social ladder (kinda like Lydia and Jackson?) so Steve falls for Nancy and he breaks up with Lydia and around that time, Eleven had already opened the gate to the upside down and Lydia's banshee powers awaken. Seeing visions and running around the woods with the disappearances happening, and Steve breaking up with her, she's deemed a freak and falls from grace. In season 2, after Steve and Nancy break up, the two rekindle their romance as Lydia struggles to find out what she is. (oh and in the beginning of the season she's of course gonna bang billy because hey let's face it, Lydia has a thing for bad boys😂 and I really think Billy would be all over her so a love triangle would be there)
