Found this on the DOJ page - Bannon was sentenced today to four months of incarceration and ordered to pay a fine of $6,500 on two counts of contempt of Congress stemming from his failure to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 breach of the United States Capitol. Y’all make a great point. I was a Democrat poll watcher for many years, and ended up quitting somewhere in… 2019. I live in a very red neighborhood. During the darkness of the early morning on one electron day, our polling station was vandalized- by some absolute *moron* who thought that spray painting their guy’s name in red all over the walls of a 300+-year-old church that’s registered as a Historical Landmark made him look *good.* Many of the folks who vote at my polling place know my parents, know where I grew up, know where I live. They know that I’m old, and that my husband works the overnight shift in the ER, leaving me alone most nights. Still… I regret dropping out, and plan to get involved again. This time, I’ll request an assignment that’s not my own polling place. Hopefully, that will be safer.

Bannon's position is that he isn't going to concede and pay what he owes. However, he continues to rant and threaten that when Trump is elected all hell is going to begin. Just yesterday he was describing how things are going to reverse course and people will see everyone "against" Trump will be thrown into prison and punished for their choices. If Bannon can ride out the next few months and Trump is elected, he, too, will be pardoned and the slate will be wiped clean just like Trump. It is frightening that so many are escaping consequences by using the system to do what they like and skate by in the end. My hope for a happy ending to the misery of the last few years is fading.

The electoral college prevented Donald Trump from stealing the election in 2020. Be careful what you wish for. It’ll be much easier to steal an election if states were not limited in their effects on the national election. The attorney general of Texas bragged about preventing a Biden win in Texas in 2020 and tried to overturn results in about half a dozen other states. If the electoral college wasn’t there, I have no doubt he would’ve done much more damage.

Getting rid of the Electoral College and Citizens United would be a radical change for this country. What would happen if we also included the same federal campaign allowance for each candidate (amount depending on the position they're campaigning for), and had only a couple of months' worth of campaigning? I believe they do something like that in Australia-- plus mandatory voting, and election day on a Saturday.

The electoral college is in the constitution and changing it would require a constitutional amendment which is impossible at this time. Also, the electoral college prevented Donald Trump from stealing the election in 2020. Citizens united was a Supreme Court ruling which could be countered through legislation. There is already a federal campaign. People can contribute to this campaign through a check off on their federal tax returns.

I retired at 51 and moved to NC in 2011. I know "Democracy Watch" is doing a lot of work in the State ,(mostly due to the criminal level of Gerrymandering, but as far as ease of voting compared to where I was from was top-notch. The thing back then making the news was "Voter ID". No big deal for me (to my nonreligious ass,I was thinking that the "Souls to polls" preachers could downsize their Limos, to Crown Victoria's, and pay for IDs for the indigent in their congregation. , then work to make it free. (I mean in NC an indigent citizen can get free hunting and fishing licenses. so the state doesn't have to feed hungry people, (It's not "Let them cake" it's "Let them go fishing"). But I still signed up to be a poll worker, anyway, because I did not need the money but I had done public service all my life. After Trump was elected things changed. A former co-worker of mine who retired here (Homicide Detective) was electioneering, yes he is black, but he was also a lifelong Republican. I had also worked with him on patrol, and his wife was my former patrol partner (she retired out of sex crimes). He was approached by 3 hillbilly trailer park residents one of which got out of the jalopy and displayed "what appeared to be a firearm", and asked for" ID". He walked off and called the cops,.The cops caught them. The asshole with the "gun" (pellet gun but he was on parole) caught a felony, and his two buddies caught misdemeanors. When I read over the packet, to be a poll worker, and saw that If I were an election worker I could not be armed. I told them "Yeah, no". But I might hang around outside anyway.

Trump pardoned him for the crimes he committed during the Trump Admin. But because he was pardoned the feds never prosecuted him for his part in the We Build the Wall frauds so they took all the evidence they had against him for those frauds and sent it to the NY state AG. Last year the NY AG convened a grand jury and the GJ determined there likely were crimes committed. The other 3 co-defendants in the case are each currently serving multi year federal prison sentences for their parts in that fraud. It is going to be great watching scumbag Bannon get sentenced to a multi year state prison sentence for wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to commit fraud. His trial starts in NY district court on May 28th, 2024. LOL

I still work the polls and after my 10th anniversary this year, Over the years I have notices that fewer and fewer people work them. It's long hours and on slow days its excruciatingly boring. on days like presidential or governor elections its super fast paced and you have to also be everything from security to information person to clerk and you have to do it without showing any bias toward either political party.

Australia makes it EASIER for it's citizens to vote UNLIKE America who takes away polling stations and make it harder? The Electoral College needs to go. 1 vote= 1 value.
