Today we take a look at the throwing action of Steve Beaton aka the Bronzed Adonis.
Making his first televised appearance in 1990, Steve is one of the longest running professionals of all time.
He has had an incredible career winning the 1993 winmu world masters and 1996 embassy BDO darts world championship.
My channel is exclusive to darts only content. I create my content as I simply love to play darts and want to help other dart players improve with my own channel.
All my video's are based on how to play darts as well as advise on equipment and general darts setup with the aim to guide any new players in their darting journey as well as provide more experienced or even professional dart players with dart content to help improve.
I throw around an 80 average myself with my left hand due to in injury and dartitis in my right arm.
I may on occasion use footage from the Professional darts corporation (the P.D.C) as well as The British Darts organisation (The B.D.O). These are used under fair use legislation and all credit should be given the rightful creators.

Another great video. One day I'd love to see a film like I am Legend or Planet of the Apes where 99% of civilisation gets wiped out and one of the survivors turns on the TV and sees that Steve Beaton is still playing darts.

Thanks for this video mate. As a beginner, I [stupidly] felt throw analysis videos were a bit pointless due to how we all throw differently with different styled darts but it gave me some valuable information to what goes on in a throw and some things I could look out for in my game. Great commentary and nice use of the slow mo with different angles

I’ve been playing 6 weeks and this is the closest I’ve seen to how I throw naturally in terms of one movement, opposite eye dominate so pull dart to middle of face and I stand middle of the Oche

Straight to the point, I was wondering if you had any videos relating to vision of the target once you have the dart aimed? Say you’re aiming for the T20 should you be able to see the target? When I’m aiming, the dart is obscuring the target, however when I’m watching the pros play, it looks as if the dart is under the target and they can still see the target clearly. I’m not sure if you already have a video on this or not but I’d be interested to know your thoughts! Cheers

Great insights. I was never a big fan of his throw, but his hair in the 80s is worthy of a cult following. I wonder why he kept sliding center-ward on the oche over time.

Any tips for the flight sometimes knabbing the index finger on release ? I hold the rear , and sometimes the flight can clip my index on way through .
@Straightdarts

Id try a longer shaft and a slightly more front heavy dart. :)

Love Beaton’s throw, so smooth and brilliant rhythm. Maybe one of The Count in the future? One of my faves, silky smooth.

What I find interesting is, that his forearm is at an angle not straight vertically. He seems to align the hand/wirst(which is at an angle to the forearm) to the target instead of his ellbow/arm. So the arm seems to move to the left of the target but the wrist flick pushes it back to the right and making it straight to the target?!

The key to thwoing like this is to keep the elbow and shoulder pointing in-between the Double 3 and Double 17 (very slightly misaligned) then throw with the wrist, flicking the palm of the hand down the center of there board, do not fully extend the arm on the sole, it's about a 90% arm extention. Leighton Rees did it as well :)

I'm experimenting with this kind of throwing motion and it seems to work much better for me. It's just a more natural movement than trying to force your body/arm into a perfectly vertically aligned position. I'm noticing a lot less pulls to the left or right that way. I was starting to have problems/pain in my tendons in my forearm and it seems to really help with that issue. I will probably reach out to you within the next few days as I'm considering to take some coaching from your side, since I'm relatively new to the sport (less than 2 years) and receiving some advices from an expert could be very helpful, I guess 🙂

Very interesting to see him gripping the dart on the shaft and not the barrel. A bit like Andy Fordham, right?

Does he have all his fingers on the dart?

No, index and thumb on the shaft abd the middle finger is very gently touching the rear tapper on his darts.

Aye the "Bronzed Adonis", if my memory is correct. Always was one of the better player's in yesteryear & well his throw is Timeless & Legendary. If I may hazard a guess, I'd say your Own throw , grip , weight of dart & shape of flight all mirror Mr. Beaton's ?? Admittedly with a more aggressive grip & a nose 👃 that needs no work, as the balance is perfect for middle & rear grippers. Well that's my 1st foray in to throw analysis 😂😂

No so much the throw, I did kick the dart as well though and my darts a extremely similar. :) always been a huge fan of Beaton and his darts have always worked for me.

@@Straightdarts Aye , I had the set before the blue & gold ones. Just so easy to hit 140's with. A crackin dart . Just a quick question ......I started with a 21g dart , then work etc , had 20yrs off the game . Now I've had every weight from 16-27g . One thing I do remember is hitting a 146 out with 21g Priestley's & always played good with the Beaton's. Am I missing the trick by not throwing a front weighted dart ?? I'm currently throwing 22g but not front weighted. I think all the struggles I've had maybe because I'm needing a front weighted dart ?? Sorry for prattling on

@@JokerJim23 you could be, the balance can make a bigger difference that the weight. Try gripping the dart further back this should have the same effect. :)
