I just went back to film school at the ripe old age of 34 haha. My lecturer absolutely loves Cassavettes. Awesome to see greats like Buscemi also holding him in such high regard

John is an absolute favorite for the legends of cinema

Buscemi must be talking about writing/directing Trees Lounge. That’s one of my favorite films. Very underrated, imo. I’ve been watching that movie fairly regularly for years, and it never dawned on me how stylistically and structurally influenced by Cassavetes it is. *And* Seymour Cassel is in it!

One of mine too. Classic. "Hey, I know I'm an asshole. The question is- do you?". " It's a GOOD DEAL! A GOOD DEAL FOR ME!". David Chase said it was a big influence influence on The Sopranos as well. Which kind of makes it one of the most influential films of the 90s.

John Cassavetes was so authentic and so full of life. ❤🔥 "Faces", "A Woman...", & "Opening Night" are his best, imho.

Thats true, What makes It authentic to me is that most of his Indie films were shot illegally to get that "inner city blues" feeling. It's what makes every crowd shot so special. They are real people, just living their lives while we as the audience take a glimpse into a time that is no more.

A Woman Under the Influence is like few films. Rowlands shows how mental health is not so black and white.

His best films are improvised. GLORIA is absolutely awful, but WOTV is captivating.
