I was 17 when Despicable Me came out just finished my sophomore year of HS. Ok I admit I really thought the idea of a supervillain turned adopted father would be too crazy to work. And it was going to take more than Julie’s star billing to lure me into the theater. It took me almost a year to finally sit down and watch the film. I was surprised by the accent Julie uses as Gru’s mom I almost didn’t recognize her voice. For the most part, I was proven wrong. I’m 31 now and it warms my heart to see Steve honor his onscreen mom in this matter.

Oh, no, it's OK, not a jab at all, just part of the fun. Famous review at the time of Dick's cockney said "it was the worst ever in cinema." (Dick quotes it himself in interviews, and even in his taped tribute to Julie.) It's OK, he can take it, because he was WONDERFUL! in every other way. He's a great sport-- and huge talent-- and I expect he laughed and enjoyed this very funny tribute 👍👏
