Haha, love the angle. I normally feel really uncomfortable with these type of interviews, because Paul was absolutely destroyed in front of millions of people, and it feels like bullying. But to think going on air and defending the stuff he did makes him look and sound like the vermin he clearly is, so the more people destroy the rat the better. He's not a journalist. He's that feral pleb in the office or playground that goes round grassing on other people because he's got absolutely no personality of his own. It's his only way to feel important. To think that he's breathing the same air as normal people even annoys me!

That’s one thing though isn’t it? They also exposed huge amounts of corruption but Partridge here is batting for the rich and famous, and using a dead girl as a human shield. Far more reprehensible than the NOTW, and this was about bringing down a right leaning paper, this had nothing to do with decency. He wouldn’t have given a shyt if it was tory MPs having their privacy invaded.

@@RaferJeffersonIIII am not one for celebs who whinge about their fame, but: 1. He's earned & worked for his money. Why does that mean it's ok for Press to regard it as open season on him 2. @@sarahholland2600 1. That’s the deal if you work in entertainment. Same as football. If you want people hanging on your every word and women throwing themselves at you, press intrusion is the price you pay. Of course, arrogant narcissists like Steve don’t agree. Like you, they think they deserve all the perks but none of the downsides. 2. This had nothing to do with press corruption, this was a left winger taking down a right leaning paper for a political victory. If you’ve ever heard Steve speak about “tories” he’s the most bigoted man alive, despite being a comedy actor, he thinks he has credentials to comment on politics when in reality a hairdresser is probably better qualified. He used Milly Dowler as hard evidence - he passed on the countless incidents of corruption they exposed and centred on the mistakes - so he did indeed exploit that for his own benefit. As for the donation, that was clearly well publicised. It’s kind of the minimum standard. Well done Steve, you helped usher in a world of state press censorship to protect the lifestyles of the rich and famous snd for political point scoring. If he wasn’t such an Islington “tory scum” asswipe I’d have a bit more sympathy. Tory scum whilst driving sports cars.

Not all of them, some are still doing great, important work to this day. Granted though, any rag with Rupert Murdoch's grubby mitts all over it is cancer, pure & simple.

Paul McMullen makes me feel physically sick. The press don't have the right to listen to anyone's answering machine messages - whether they're good or bad, rich or poor.

"You've gotta get rid of emotions to think about it rationally". So many people say stuff like this. What's rational about disregarding emotions? About ignoring a whole realm of facts - because emotions are facts and they're facts that matter a lot.

Coogan speaks so much sense. The whole tradgedy in this particular situation is that there is even a debate on who was right and who was wrong.

What a wonderful piece - you can clearly see that everyone around the table has their own biases, their own motivations, and you can see what arguments spring out of those motivations. Next time you hear "freedom of the press" you'll have a clearer understanding what sort of person would make that argument

I'm hearing: "I care about journalism which is why I solicit and peddle gossip. Of course I don't actually do journalism unless it falls in my lap. But those rare occasions when I can't get out of doing journalism justify my invasions of privacy and propriety for the sake of salacious gossip and slander by innuendo."
