It has kinda like Alan Parsons project sound to it. Good stuff. I like how all the members of Genesis, Hackett, Phil, Peter, Tony, Mike, Daryl and Chester and so on, have done amazing stuff in their solo careers as well.

I agree - seems a demo. Too many ideas - none of which strong. I don't like the voice. And the musical riff they are pretty the same since the clocks riff then heard again on many songs like camino royale and other.

Saw him do this live last night in Reading, PA. It was absolutely mezmerizing! You need to hear it live, then perhaps you'll appreciate it more. Up in Smoke is fantastic as well live, can't wait to get the new album just for these two songs and I assure you there will be many more awesome songs!

The Night Siren takes us in most of the time ("In Another Life") even though the emphasis ("West to East") and the theatrical sometimes return teasing ("In the Skeleton Gallery"). Not enough to tarnish the picture of a disc advancing like a mirage until "The Gift" which plays melancholy with a formidable efficiency!

Get the new album, it's great. The Sustainer guitar on "The Gift" just goes right through me. One of those beautiful pieces that Steve brings to us. Please come and stand on the Red Rocks in Colorado. That setting was made for your soaring guitar. The new 21st century Rocky Mountain High! Steve Hackett is fantastic!!! I'm working on reproducing you sound with my new Sustainiac guitar. Thanks for the beauty and Inspiration, kind sir!

Well, it sounds very much similar to "Wolfwork" from the "Wild Orchids"-album (I was listening to it this morning...). I hope the other songs are a bit more independent.
@TSPH19928 жыл бұрын
I think this is one of those songs to promote an album without revealing too much. If you know what I mean. The way this song ended made me realize that it will flow into something else + that there will be better songs on this album. This is one of those connecting tracks to make the album a whole.

Those strings, man. Always doing the Wolflight thing. I wonder what Nick Magnus is up to these days.
He has clearly been influenced by arabic music and all what is happening in Siria. This song has many changes and colors. Sometimes has a dense rock sound, then next, a sublime and mystic arabic influenced sound. Then a little bit of jazz...

Love Steve's stuff...just not a fan of the (what seems) computerized harmonies sometimes. I know his band provides backing vocals, but often times it just doesn't seem natural
@Sledr19947 жыл бұрын
Don't know. The first 2 1/2 minutes are beautiful, the riff at 3:03 is really captivating, but the whole contruction of the song seems pretty confused, and the ending is disappointing and absolutely casual. Adding that the album sounds all pretty much the same as this one and that the choral part looses a lot when performed live... it just doesn't convince me.

I'm afraid to say I'm depressed by Steve's last albums. Poor production, poor creativity, awful rythm section.... always the same kind of singing, of writing. Time to get a new productor Steve ? A Nigel Goodrich for instance ?
@marktrevett8817 жыл бұрын
I agree Franck, I'm with you on that. Maybe get Phil, Tony and Mike to work their magic on his next album? Oh hang on, that would then be a very similar setup to another group called Genesis wouldn't it? lol! XD

Hmm, each album since "Defector" seems to have a couple of wonderful pieces on it, one or two kinda engaging pieces, and a bunch of, erm, stuff. The guy is simply written out. I'd much rather he take a few years off and then come back with an album that is, first to last, a killer. But at least he's still trying . . . unlike his former mates in Genesis. Cheers!
