I am surprised to read any of the criticism aimed at this group of musicians who play these songs without fault. I've seen Genesis many times with their original line-up in the 70s and l can tell you they were also fantastic together. The recorded sound is far better now though, and l think Steve's choice of each of the recent shows musicians including Nad Sylvan is impeccable. What more could you ask. Keep it up for us Steve & co. Thanks

'Cinema Show' musically is just an absolutely amazing performance. As Steve H. says the tune starts off as a simple love song. And then builds to something incredible. Kudos to all the wonderful musicians featuring in Steve Hackett's magically superb sounding band. From vocals, Alt saxophone, Roger's keyboards, incredibly amazing drumming from Craig Blundell with all that rhythm, the incredible guitar renditions. I loved the thwang thwang thwang machinations from the combinations of drums, guitars and all instruments towards the end which just send me. Count those 8 bars in repetition which leads into the finale.

To me, what sums up Steve Hackett is that although he could have, when he's playing the most amazing things effortlessly, he doesn't insist the camera is on him. In a lot of the old Genesis videos he's playing technically difficult and ground breaking things, and the director chose to show Peter Gabriel banging on a tambourine. And by choosing this song, he gives his loyal bandmates their own opportunities to shine. True measure of the Steve - just playing great music and being humble still.
@damianb23742 жыл бұрын
'The director chose'... implying some 'unfairness' or 'unbalance'? Which directors? Next you'll type the typical internet go-to: 'underrated'.

What a brilliant performance and album this is. I'm lucky enough to have it on both vinyl and cd and have listened to it several times since the post man delivered it last month. I'm almost loathe to suggest it but I can't stop wondering if the drums would have been better if Gary O'Toole had been on here instead of the excellent Craig Blundell. Can't have been easy for Blundell to fill the seat that the magnificent O'Toole had occupied for twenty years.
@randomguestobserving60713 жыл бұрын
As a drummer heavily influenced by Collins I tend to disagree. Blundell is closer to Phil's playful/colorful style which came to perfection with A Trick of the Tail and Brand X of course and his first blossoming with "Selling England..." Felt always sad that he didn't pursue a career as Top Tier Drummer btw. ...:(

I hate to be a hater, but this version feels lifeless compared to the "Seconds Out" version. Sound quality may be better, but the performance falls flat. The keyboard solo from "CInema Show" is may favorite piece of Genesis music, and the version here does not have Tony Banks' energy. All the same notes, but not the same feel. I realize that is a subjective response, and folks will disagree. It is what it is.
