@@topcomment3816 the statement wasn't about becoming Rich. The statement was about becoming debt free, not being beholden to other people's money. Now if you owe people money you need to deduct that from your networth because it's not yours and you're living on someone else's dime. If you are referring to the concepts from Rich Dad Poor Dad that is something completely different and does not negate being debt free. What Steve and you are suggesting is completely reckless and will leave the common man beholden to another, shackled by financial slavery thinking it is okay to keep borrowing money to finance their life.

The issue with what Steve said is this… HE MIGHT use leverage to make most of his money or to do his investing. BUT even if it can work that way, he didn’t explain it enough for the every day person to understand. All he told him was debt is good and use other people’s money. Without being specific to the difference between the type of debt that kid was referring to VS the type of leverage Steve was probably referring to. The average person hears “debt is good” and they don’t rationalize it and just assume all debt is equal.

@Goneeupdwwu It would be unfair to not recognize that more than a few have become rich using OPM. My advice would be this: it can be done, but it is a risky maneuver, and the risk is more than a reasoned calculus would support. But it can be done. I’m simply of the opinion that a person, having dodged a bullet, should not conclude that dodging bullets is a wise and normal course to follow.

Dave's Method is not a way to become rich or wealthy, its a way to live a comfortable life without debt worries. Steve is right to an extent, many people have taken out loans and used it successfully to gain massive fortunes, granted you should strive to reach the point where you can rely on your own money but you gotta start somewhere. Now Dave's way is right for a lot of Americans and Steve's way is right for a few Americans. Issue is that everyone thinks they can do Steve's method, but in reality they do not have the know how to pull it off and will likely end up broke, and in more debt. So most people would be better off with Dave's method and just live a comfortable life.

So I did my research, turns out that Steve Harvey does NOT owe 25 million in IRS debt, as claimed in this video. Back in 2008, he did owe, as a result of a now-deceased accountant. Unlike Dave Ramsey, Steve did not file for bankruptcy. Steve rolled up his sleeves, worked, sold assets, and paid off the IRS debt, by 2016. It is fair to say that Steve and Dave have different takes on finances but Dave's attempt to diminish Harvey by defining him simply as a guy who makes jokes misrepresents him. Steve is a media mogul, philanthropist, his voice and story of resilience is important in our culture today.

Which is why you have to be picky about what people are saying if they are giving advice to people, sometimes they say something that dosent make sense

I generally think Steve is problematic in the things he saids but let’s get some things clear he was 20 mil in debt in like, 2014. He’s gotten that fixed by using some dudes debt free plan or whatever. Another thing, is dude works many events so it’s no wonder he thinks this way. I don’t think retirement is something he looks forward to and by keeping debt he always has a reason to work.

Dave you are looking at old news, in 2008 he HAD 25 million debt but he paid it off. Steve is a comedian so I doubt he was giving sound financial advice.

@@cazpk6840 Part of discharging this massive debt was selling his radio network in 2012. If he hadn’t had this asset to sell, he’s still be paying off this debt. OPM? Isn’t this the advise given by the Rich Dad/Poor Dad guy? My friend followed his advise and lost everything in 2010. Had to restart her life at age 47.

The 20mil Dave was referring to allegedly was due to his accountant not doing his job because he passed away (rich ppl problems) and the checks were never mailed. I’m pretty sure Steve Harvey is worth at least tens of millions of dollars. However, I do agree that being debt free is a great freedom. I also recognize that many millionaires and Billionaires (net worth) use debt to grow their business and reduce tax liability, who am I to say they are wrong or stupid? To suggest that building serious wealth should not involve debt is myopic. I’m personally debt averse, but I think different approaches to finance work for different personality types/minds and are not one size fits all. Daves method is what most Americans need, not all.

Steve's not completely wrong, you can get rich using OPM but you can and probably will go broke using OPM too. Living within your means and saving won't make to "rich" but you will be wealthy with no risk of going broke.

I got hooked to your videos binge watched so many of them. I am from Canada and did my education from India from not so expensive institutions and top of that my dad took care of it. Luckily From age 21 after school I took things in my hand made way through. Now married and settled with my wife in Toronto. Only debt I have for car which is pretty small and we are planning to pay off and get a house for ourselves. Your video really motivated me to get on road and make more money. Will surely love to talk to you someday.
