Well, that explains why it's so integrated in our lives today. It's because of the reaction this got back then. If people were like "yawn, who cares" then no one else may have put this in their machines at the time, and we might be years behind the state of advancement we are at today in electronics. This overwhelming reaction was noticed in the industry and immediately replicated by other companies, which led to the wifi revolution we had in the mid 2000's.

The reason everyone is clapping so hard is that this is the first laptop with built in WiFi. Apple rose to the top through understanding what consumers want and need, and they have some of the best technology and innovative ideas. Marketing is only a very small portion of their success. Saying it's all just marketing is delusional.

*had. Ever since Jobs died they've been taking ideas from all over. There should have NEVER been an iPad mini or a four inch iPhone. Those are things Android manufacturers do. And if you call the 64 bit CPU or the fingerprint reader innovation, you fell for a gimmick. 1GB of RAM and a 64bit OS is silly (don't make me explain why), and thinkpads have had fingerprint scanners since '95. Used to love apple until 2012.
@alexnelson895811 жыл бұрын
Kevin Roscom I actually disagree with you on a few things that you brought as the fingerprint scanner is NOT gimmicky and is a lot more effective than the scanners on laptops. I will say it was not truly innovative to most people but a select few might think that it was and if they think that, that is fine with me but we can all disagree or agree. the 64 bit procesor i think was good but it was not needed. a few may say before its time but the onllt wat that all those bits will be worth something is if apple includes 4+ gigs of ram and that wont be for a long time. I can agree with you on the ipad mini but i had an iphone 4s and it felt pretty small in the hand and was hard to use but bumping it up to 4 inches was a dumb move by apple as all they did was make it taller. there are some rumors that have been floating around that apple will make a phablet iphone and i think that because "Ever since Jobs died they've been taking ideas from all over." that they might actually do this and this might again turn out to be a big flop

Firstly, it's Mb/s - you've actually just said 11 millibits per second. Secondly, your internal network speed does not equal your Internet connection speed - these are two very different things. All recent consumer devices with built-in Wi-Fi can reach network connection speeds of at least 54 Megabits per second (signal strength permitting).

Steve didn't invent this stuff. He put out some ideas, but usually it was based on ideas or inventions that other people around him already had, and he chose which ones he felt he could market best. The original Apple was an invention of Steve Wozniak, and Jobbs recognized Woz's talent, and felt he could market his invention to the masses as a "personal computer". He was right, but Jobbs didn't invent anything.

It was a pretty huge leap though at the time, because wireless networking at the time used stuff like infra-red transceivers, and it was slow, buggy and required more or less a line of sight connection. I remember getting my first wifi enabled laptop in 2004 and it was absolutely fantastic compared to having a 100m ethernet cable that I used to haul around the house.
