Charlie’s blessing, i’m glad he’s using Gretsch drums (Charlie), the 18 UFIP china (Charlie) …. Charlie is living through Steve Jordans wonderful drumming.

I totally agree. But where’s Charlie’s cow bell? Or maybe he hadn’t been using that in recent years? I don’t know why but somehow I’d formed the impression that Charlie Watts always felt a bit underdressed without his cowbell?

@@izaakandela2933 He was famously particularly fond of a specific cowbell, which I believe (less certain about this part) he used to wrap a little duct tape around to tweak the tone, like drummers do. Every drummer has a cowbell. At least every drummer with a complete kit.

The Stones rhythm section was always a R&B groove unit and never a heavy metal outfit that would require a larger floor tom for more separation as you believe. Steve can tune and hit the drum to get that floor tom to sound like anything. Charlie really used it as a ride drum as on Tumbling Dice. 14 is nice and tight. Keith ain't complaining. @@coreyw5981

It seems Charlie Watts thought so himself. Keith practically said so himself in an interview with the Rolling Stones before one of their Los Angeles concerts last year. Also Steve Jordan being the drummer in Keith's side ban The X-Pensive Winos and their songwriting and production partnership could have been a factor as well.

If you knew anything about Steve Jordan you would not say such a thing. Steve Jordan has played with literally everybody. He has been a pro session and touring drummer for decades, all the way back to the Blues Brothers. He's been Kieth Richards' drummer for his solo stuff for years. He's used those same giant hi-hats for years and years playing with Eric Clapton and John Mayer, etc., and they always sound great. And he's always used big ride cymbals instead of crashes, and again, they sound great. He's also not a jazz drummer. He comes from the blues/soul background and has the deepest pocket in the biz. I think he knows EXACTLY what this gig calls for. AND he has Charlie's blessing. He will sound great, don't you worry.
