Man, what a difficult job to get called to, putting on the shoes of Charlie Watts, but I must say that Steve here nails it. We miss you Charlie, but remain assured, Steve is navigating the ship well.
@OMGWTFLOLSMH2 ай бұрын
I have no doubt Steve bring a lot to the table and has really improved the Stones' game. He's younger, faster and tighter than late 70 yr old Charlie. No disrespect to Charlie, but it's hard playing drums at that age.
@alexstewart8392 ай бұрын
I've yet to find any historical evidence of Steve Jordan not nailing something. Even without his long history with Keith Richards, I'm not sure there's anyone who could be better suited to the job.

Steve Jordan is far better than Charlie. He can play Charlie's parts with more groove and none of the white guy awkward stiffness.

Steve was great when i saw them live, but there's something special & personal about Charlie's playing that left with him
@Nevernow7212 ай бұрын
Steve is one of my favorite drummers, but Charlie wrote the part and propelled the Stones from scratch to what they are. White guy stiffness and all. A lot of people say things like that about Charlie, but it takes one of the all time greats just to do his job. Charlie made those songs hit songs with a very distinctive style. In my mind, he was also one of the all time greats. There are a lot of great drummers out there with incredible abilities, but they aren't Charlie Watts and they aren't Ringo. But I know what you're saying. I understand.

I thought that his comment on the period of Charlie’s playing he was emulating was particularly interesting. I’ve never heard of someone diving that deep into the career of someone they are replacing (not a great word to use, but factual). Fantastic. Such interesting observations about the tempo and the nuances of the original recording. The bolero. By the 2010s Charlie was doing mind blowing fills on Paint It that were completely different than the fills on the original. Always one of my favourite numbers by Charlie. So cool that Steve harkened back to the original and especially to that tempo. Cheers and thanks for the great video!

Great video! Steve could easily have had the attitude of "Hey, I have nothing to prove here. I'm an established pro. I'll interpret these songs as I see fit." Instead, he pays respect - well-earned respect - to Charlie by studying and playing the songs the way we're used to hearing them. Perhaps Steve realized that by studying a legend like Charlie, his own playing would benefit. That's the mark of a true pro.
