While it's tragic that we lost people like Eddie Van Halen, it's important to remember we still have players like Steve around, and he is an undisputed virtuoso.

@@luksjfernandes I thought Eddie van Halen‘s hero was Holdsworth?
@luksjfernandes3 жыл бұрын
@@mountainman8775 Clapton was his first and biggest hero, he said it many times. When he was young he wanted to sound like Clapton in Cream (Eddie, Brian May and many other legends were the guys that made Rolling Stone best guitarist list, putting Hendrix and Clapton on the top). Eddie is a blues player essentially, while Holdsworth is not. Another great influence to young Eddie was Lennon/Harrison guitar work in "She's so heavy".

@@mountainman8775 www.google.com/amp/s/www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/who-were-eddie-van-halen-influences-1071780/amp/ "Clapton is number one" Eddie said in 2011. People forget it, but Clapton was the first ever popular guitar virtuoso, the first to ever use a Marshall (the bluesbraker, which was made for him), the first to use a les paul with it (Jimmy Page was recording him in Beato and took the idea). Clapton influence was so huge during Cream years that he formed a entire generation of new guitarists, including Eddie, but also many many other greats. No wonder even Hendrix only went to England with one condition: meeting Clapton.

+rafael trejo When I've had teachers at his level, and played in more than one band at the same time, I advanced quickly. You need a teacher, practice and an outlet to try new skills and the more outlets the better. More interaction means more is demanded of you and the adrenaline goes up and things stick and the fingers go on autopilot. When I took drums and guitar at the same time from two over-the-top guys, I became a much better musician. I'll never be a great drummer, but I've become a decent percussionist and my bass playing and guitar shot straight up. More and more theory and experimentation and paying gigs. That makes you good. Well, better anyway... ;)
