PP Arnold and Steve Marriott, doesn't get any better than that. Seen Humble Pie perform twice in concert back in the 70's and the videos don't show the unbelievable power in Steve's voice. He could stand three feet behind the microphone and still blow you out of your seat. He was (as you said) a generational talent and I'm thankful that I was able to witness his greatness. It was a concert I will never forget.

P.P. Arnold and Steve Marriott had a short lived affair but remained close friends until his death. She remains close to his daughter who is also a gifted musician in her own right. The song Afterglow was written by Steve about P.P. Arnold.

LOL! You didn't have to say a word about the ''sista". Your facial expression said it all. And I agree 100%. She is drop dead gorgeous! (and I'm white, but for me beauty has no color) I enjoyed your reaction/review very much. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest rock songs/performances/groups in the history of popular music ... And Steve Marriott was one of the absolute greatest rock vocalists in the history of Rock n' Roll.

PP Arnold was Steve Marriott's girlfriend at the time, I think. She's from LA but came over here on tour with the Ikettes, quit and stayed in London. Her version of The First Cut is the Deepest has the Small Faces backing. Check out her own stuff. She's amazing! When Steve Marriott was a child actor, he sang the part of the Artful Dodger on stage and on Lionel Bart's album 'Oliver'.

When Steve came to play NJ in 1987, I got to meet him before and after the show. We drank an awful lot and he told road stories, one after the other. He was family-oriented as well. He kept asking everyone about their families and if everyone was okay. Spoke about his parents with a glow. He was very sweet. Also, very seasoned. He was a hardcore musician and party animal and it proudly showed. He said something I'll never forget; "Spookie, when I'm gone I hope fellas like you keep carrying the torch" Little did we both know, he'd be gone 4 years later. Rest in peace.

Thank you for SMALL FACES "Tin Soldier". Groovy is a good description as this song was popular in 1968! LOL- Don't worry about lusting after PP Arnold - she was and still is a beautiful woman. All the men love her (-: This was a great pop song Steve wrote to woo his future wife Jenny. Please check out some of the other styles (besides pop) that this very innovative band released. "You Need Lovin" (R&B), "Itchicoo Park" & "Here Comes the Nice" (psychedelic (LSD), "Lazy Sunday" & "Rene, the Dockers Delight" (whimsical music hall), "AfterGlow", "Song of a Baker" and "Wham Bam Thank you Mam" (rock). Steve Marriott was truly gifted singer, songwriter and multi-instrumental (guitar, keyboards, harmonica, sitar, bass, drums, etc) Please listen to more...

I know how much you love learning about great guitarists. And I would also like to introduce you to just a few legends in bluegrass. "Bill Monroe & The Bluegrass Boys - Blue Moon Of Kentucky" Bill Monroe (in my humble opinion) is one of the Fathers of bluegrass. I say that because he wrote many very famous songs in Bluegrass that are played to this day. He also played the mandolin and the acoustic guitar. He was a huge influence on other famous artists like Ricky Skaggs "Ricky skaggs - Highway 40 Blues (Live in London-1985)" and "Young Ricky Skaggs" playing the mandolin." And I have to include "George Shuffler -Cross picking" he was one of the earliest guitarist's to develop crosspicking. This is a form of picking and rhythm playing unique to bluegrass music. He is even in the Bluegrass Hall Of Fame. And finally mostly because I'm a female (lol) and I'm a huge admirer of Molly Tuttle "Molly Tuttle,Sierra Hull,Sarah Jarosz - Salt Creek" she was the first woman to win the International Bluegrass Music Association's Guitar Player of The Year award - both in 2017 and 2018. She was also named the Americana Music Association's Instrumentalist of the year. I didn't mean to write a book... lol

He was a fantastic talent (not necessarily easy to live with because that energy never seemed to run down) and he died tragically in a house fire aged 40; he was never meant to grow old! It is said that he was approached for the lead singer of Led Zeppelin but the shyster manager of the Small faces would not let him out of his contract.

I think it had a lot more to do with being zonked on valium and booze (a killer combo as i know all too well. I've even fallen asleep standing up in the past due to that combo, as witnessed shockingly by my then teenage daughter!, that is how fast you go from being wide awake to being full on out of it on that mixture) and probably a larger part of the blame goes to now banned furniture materials of the early 90s rather than just the smoking. Since they banned that foamed filled furniture horror show that went up like an e bike explosion and actually gave off cyanide there have been vastly less smoking/fire related deaths. I hate to admit it but the state of my sofa, that was new only 2 years ago would should you how many times I'd have died in a fire in 1991. Luckily I live alone otherwise I'd obviously be a lot more circumspect, but I've learned that you can put a newly lit cigarette down your mattress, sofa, on your carpet and all you're gonna wake up to these days is yet another annoying burn that looks like sh1t. Steve would be alive today, well, maybe not, bit he wouldn't have died that night if they had passed that legislation a lot sooner than they did. And of course I don't recommend smoking period to anyone, or drug use, street or pharmaceutical. It's all the same at the end of the day.

I , personally, don’t see or hear it, but I’ve heard, and read, others state that Page was looking for someone in a frontman/ singer, to try to be similar to what Jeff Beck got, with R Stewart. That it was a jealousy thing, and a one upmanship, from the big Yardbird split.
