I arrived in Poole under the cover of darkness. Boy was I surprised by the harbour here when the sun came up the next morning! A bit of a relaxed wander this one, I hope you enjoy the video :)

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it's about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a 9-5 job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for KZbin Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Hi Steve, when you were the Lifeboat headquarters I was waiting for you to look at the modern monument to the men who lost their lives saving others. You did show it on camera as you were going for your lunch. My great great Grandfather is one of the men whose name is written on the monument he lost his life with another man saving the crew of a stricken tea clipper in County Down , Ireland in 1837. The crew were saved but the coastguards My relation were tipped out of the boat as they got in. There was a poem written about their bravery and I visited Poole a couple of years ago on my way to France and stopped off to see the monument. I wished we had longer Poole is fantastic. Thank you for showing what we missed. I have to say the Fish and Chips we got in the harbour were excellent. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you .

@pierstheoneandonly
@pierstheoneandonly Ай бұрын
@@philipedwards9038 Yes, there's also a tendency to eulogise if it's a sunny day. As an ex-local (New Forest), Bournemouth, Poole, Sandbanks, Swanage and Lulworth were regular family day trips. But it's sad to realise that these places (certainly the first two) have been subject to the 'modern blight'; this affirmed in various vids on here. Correlative to their newest mission which the RNLI seemed a little shy about, you really wouldn't want to walk around there at night, especially as a lone female.

We had lots of holidays there when I was a kid - a scary number of decades ago. We stayed in Rockley Sands caravan park (now Haven). We used to watch the local kids jumping into the water in the harbour. And Sandbanks was our favourite beach. The houses didn't cost millions back then and had rickety wooden steps down to the sand. I always thought it would be fantastic to live in one. I loved the small marina near the caravan site. Years later, with my own family, we lived on a harbour in the Netherlands and I became the harbour master. Mum collected china from Poole Pottery on the Quay every year - I've still got a set. Really enjoyed your visit!

You'd obviously heard of our "New" bridge saga, whilst the old one continues (with regular maintenance). Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your visit to our town (P.S. town not city!). Please come back again in the future. Maybe on your next visit you can spend a bit longer in the old town, and even try a pint in each of the pubs on the Quay, a great experience. I'm not so sure the trip from Poole back to Scotland will be as pleasant as your walk around our town. Remember you did get to see the "Twin sails bridge" actually open!!

You two could show some excerpts from your travels and hold a couple of presentations together with a Q&A session in one of the ship's venues. With your already sizeable follower base, this would be hugely popular for both yourselves and the cruise ship passengers. No kidding, lots of much less interesting speakers invite themselves onboard. Give it some serious thought...let me know if you decide to do this, I for one would buy a cruise to see you two in action! Regards, Johnnie

Very interesting to see a stranger exploring my town. Born and bred in Poole, there is some fascinating history associated with the town I could tell you about! Glad you like the old homestead.

Great videos, Poole made me home sick, but i believe it is a town. Spent many a day fishing off of the quay and loved the chain ferry journey to Studland. Thanks Steve keep up the great work

Great video as always Steve. I was born and lived in Poole until the age of 11. Changed a bit since then but still recognized a few places. The quay is a favourite. Perfect weather for you .
