I remember visiting Urquart Castle during the 1980s. It was approaching closing time and the keeper was just checking everyone was leaving. As he approached where I was sitting, I commented upon how peaceful it was. Whereupon 3 black RAF jets ripped past making the most appalling noise and he commented, “Not always!” With a smile.

It’s lovely to see some familiar grounds again Steve from our touring days, we visited the famous Loch Ness several times over a forty year period, we also had boat trips out on the loch, one thing you would never find us doing was camping in the woods at night! I think it’s time for you and Alicja to find a more comfortable option, I remember standing looking out at the loch from Urquhart Castle and it’s magical setting as clear as day, we never did see Nessie though, just a few dark shadows and rippling water that could have been mistaken for him! My imagination ran wild when you found the Clan Fraser Cemetery, I wondered if Diana Gabaldon the author of ‘Outlander’ got any inspiration for Jamie Frasers character in her Novels about a time traveling romance between a handsome Scottish Highland Warrior, and an English Rose named Claire, thanks again Steve for another trip into the past bringing back wonderful memories of an era long gone, blessings from another rather jaded english rose 🥀

One of your best videos, Steve, although I think I say this every time! I was at Loch Ness in 2016. It was July, but raining and cool, and we went on one of the tourist boats from, I suspect, the touristy north side of the loch. It was a great cruise, although the water was rough, and the windows of the boat had stickers of Nessie so you could take a photo looking out over the water and tell your gullible friends that you saw the monster 😂. Some other comments: - the scenery in Scotland, especially in the Highlands, is rugged and harsh, rather than cute and comfortable, but absolutely gorgeous. I didn’t really expect that. - loved your comment about reading a menu and always choosing fish and chips - that’s me at every seafood restaurant. - that traffic light near the end of the video, had to laugh as it seemed so unnecessary, lol Looking forward to your next video. Regards from 🇨🇦

Drove around Loch Ness, took in the Falls of Foyers, it was long before I became disabled, walked part way up Ben Nevis (I wasn't dressed nor equipped well enough to go all the way. My favourite place was Drumnadrochit, very close to Urquart Castle and not a million miles from Dores. On my route back to London I drove up the A82 to Inverness, looked in at Culloden then down the A9 through to Edinburgh, then the A1 to London. Knowing what I know now, I'm so pleased that I did it. It sounds like a human walking, it sounds to loud to be animals, far too loud, strange thing is, if you stop, so does the other noises and footsteps. As soon as you start walking again, so does the other footsteps and rustling of leaves and bushes being moved. No one will walk the road at night, some even during the day! It is made worse by the local legend of the devil falling through the Loch (before the road was built). He was the guest of the Laird of Skene House, ho dabbled in black magic and trying to turn lead into gold and other rare metals. He called his Coachman to take his guest home one very frosty, calm night. Furthermore, he was told the loch was frozen, so to save a lot of time and miles he was to cross the frozen loch. Not a problem as he had done this many times during the winter (this was in the old days) saving three hours and several miles journey. One thing was, he was not to look at the passenger in the back, that is very important. So off they set, reaching the loch, he was starting to wonder what all the noise in the back was, but he remembered he was told not to look back at his passenger! They started crossing the loch just by a burn that ran into it, it was no problem as the ground was frozen solid, in fact they had already crossed boggy ground to get there, it was also frozen solid. Snow began to fall slowly as they started to cross the loch. The noise in the back grew louder and strange noises came from the back, there was a thud and a crashing noise as they were halfway across the loch, the window on the side of the coach was broken with a crash and tinkling of glass. The coachman looked back to see the hoof of what he thought was a goat, then he looked inside, forgetting what his master had told him! He looked back inside the coach to see a man with the face and horns of a goat. At that moment, the ice cracked and the horses and carriage, with the coachman, fell through the ice, never to be seen again. When they went to look for the coach and the coachman, they saw the tracks of the coach as it went through the bog and entered the loch. They looked across to see the horse's footprints and the wheels of the coach as it crossed the loch. Halfway across, they saw a huge hole where the coach and horse's fell through the ice. The shrivelled up body of the coachman was found, just skin and bone, with a horrified look on what remained of his face. The horses and the coach were never found! To this day, when the loch freezes over, you can see the tracks of the coach and the hooves of the horses as they crossed the loch, strangely, the tracks stop halfway across the loch. I have seen the tracks from the burn go out into the loch, however, they do stop halfway across! Now, I think it is the burn that causes the tracks two lines in parallel and there are ridges just like horses would leave if pulling a coach. I think it is just the movement of the water that causes this, along with the flow of the water from the burn. But who knows, the Laird did exist, and he did do black magic and alchemy! The road was built at a later date, there are a lot of shrub type trees near the burn now, but back then it was bog, reeds and bog grass. The road was built at the same time as the Towers that stand there now, they laid lots of birch trunks and branches down, then put a road over the top. I know of other creepy places and roads, but this road makes your skin crawl. I would challenge you to walk along this road in the dark, with or without a torch. I have walked it many times, but trust me, it is NOT for the faint-hearted! If I had another option I would take it rather than go up this road, but by the time I walked from Aberdeen to Skene, I was glad to cut a few miles off getting home. EDIT: Thankfully, there was no sheep there, if a sheep coughed while I was going up that road, you wouldn't see me for dust, they sound so human when they cough!!! 8-l

This is a fun and interesting video travel vlog/blog/log! I hate to burst your bubble about Nessie, but read up on what the glaciers and ice sheets did to Scotland during the last glacial period (aka Ice Age). Maybe Nessie could hold her breath, for a while......?

After binge watching a few of your other older videos, I subscribed on this one. Scotland is my mother country, and I went for a three week visit in what seems like a lifetime ago. I Wish I could return, but ahh my husband canne fly. So, watching videos is as close to Home as I can get. About your camping spot and the footsteps you heard around your tent. From your description, it sounds like sasquatch. They are famous for walking around people's tents at night. lol Great video, thank-you.

Loved this!!!! I’m inspired to be more spontaneous as you two are. Love how you “just go and see where you end up” with smiles and joy regardless of the situation or weather. Also a cute moment when I realized you and Tony Broonford were at opposite ends of the loch likely at the same time 👏👏👏 ….. could there be a collaboration in the future, hmm 🤔🤗

Thanks so much Inga! I can see us and the Broonfords going to battle on Loch Ness wearing our kilts! :) That would be a beautiful video!

Steve and Alicja, this might be my favourite video of yours yet! Amazing how similar this part of Scotland is to Western Oregon! Superb video, mates!

Really enjoyed the video of lock Ness . I have been to uquart castle a few times and lock Ness. It was great to see them again. I love watching the Scottish videos you show. I've been to Scotland many times and just love it. Thanks again.

fun watching this video, kind of sad though. i was stationed in Scotland in the 70's and visited lock ness. i've been trying to get back there ever since but never seem to arrange the time. at 67 years old now my clock is ticking. a person doesn't realize it until it's too late, but somehow time flies by way way too fast without you noticing

Looking forward to our next adventure together ❤️🇨🇦

I've sailed a cruiser twice from Inversneckie to Fort William and back, the locks at F.Augustus are indeed a trial with tourist onlookers! Moored one morning in the bay at Urquhart Castle, we had breakfast outside at the back of the boat, felt like a millionaire! After you left the Falls of Foyers near the village of Whitebridge the road is called Knockies Straight, sadly that's were famous Scottish actor Ian Bannen was killed when thrown through his car passenger window (his wife was driving) she survived. He's buried in a Fort Augustus cemetery. Whilst being the Scottish social secretary for the BMW Motorcycle Club I put on a hotel weekend at the Clansman. Looks like it's changed a lot since then ! Thanks for the video, happy days remembered. Cheers Steve

I’ve not been to Loch Ness for many years, since I was a boy, in fact. I remember visiting Urquhart Castle on the shore. A nice woodland area for camping. It’s a pity that Nessie decided not to put in an appearance, while you were there! I remember that Boleskine House was once owned by Aliester Crowley, the famous occultist, who practiced Black Magic. Thanks for taking me round this lovely area. I enjoyed it.

I may be weird, but I enjoy seeing where you are eating, and what. And when you stay in a B & B. When I visited Scotland, I loved the little B & Bs where I stayed and the little cafes where I found some of the best soups. Keep sharing, OK?

Another lovely, nostagic experience! The first view I had of Urquhart Castle was almost 60 years ago. There was a small layby, as I recall, and a path to the castle. I did not stop nor have I on any of my trips since. I think I've toured my share of castle ruins! But, I'm glad you did Urquhart Castle for me. One sight I've only seen once was the "Nessie Hunter" and I never expected to see it again. Younger viewers of your videos probably won't realize how much reforestation has occured in the Highlands since the 1960s (my first time there). I'm sure there must have been more trees than I recall, at least in places like Loch Ness, but the landscape has drastically changed over the years.

Really interesting to hear about the reforestation Leon, I only have hazy memories of being there from childhood. And an absolute pleasure to bring you some very familiar sights :) Aw the best from us both!
