The mesmerising beauty of this stretch of the A82 puts it high on the list of any driving road in the world. You'd be forgiven for thinking this is a tourist detour, but it's actually the main road between Glasgow and Fort William! The 20 minute stretch I cover in this unedited video is of course the most famous bit (and understandably so), but the road is also beautiful before and after. However, this bit here is just ridiculous! :) I have driven it countless times before, but am always so focussed on the driving, even I didn't realise how amazing it was until editing this wee video. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Hi Im a local, and i have been battling cancer for two years. I drive to hospital in glasgow and back three days a week, always via the Glen. This journey soothes my soul and I always stop at the Laraig Gartain or the Three Sister Carpark to breathe the air and sit awhile. This film means I can share the good bits.

Last time I drove north on this road it was in glorious sunshine the whole day, Scotland looked amazing. Three days later I drove back south, in dark overcast conditions and Scotland looked even better. As a Welshman my country is beautiful as well, but Scotland has a wild untamed and very expansive feeling. For anyone wondering, go, you will not regret it.

Drove this twice in the last week, both in 35 degree blazing sunshine, once at 4pm, the second time at 9am. The morning version saw low clouds and mist before they were burnt off, and whilst this film tries, nothing can convey the sheer beauty like your own eyes. It truly is breathtaking and never looks the same twice.

Some 37 years have passed since my first visit to Glencoe and Ballachulish. A misty morning in late June gave way to sunshine, and the hills were deep green of summer. The amazing thing about Scotland (and much of Europe) is how far north it is. If you went to Canada or Russia at the same latitude, you would experience much more extreme weather during the winter. That Gulf Stream really gives you the best of both worlds. You get the incredible beauty of the Far North but with a more livable climate. I live in Southern California and I have to remind myself that I basically live at the latitude equivalent of Rabat, Morocco LOL. Scotland really is in a different league compared to where i live.

Hi Steve, I've watched this video before, but today it really moved me, I driven this road 3 times, on my way to Port Appin, then going on to the Isle of Lismore. I was blown away by the beauty of these mountains the first time I drove it, I just kept saying wow, wow, wow. I hike and wildcamp and I always feel closer to the ones who are no longer here anymore when I'm on a mountain , I lost my mother in April last year, so the combination of the beautiful music and mountains in this video, I'm not afraid to say, moved me to tears, thinking about my mother. Keep up the great work, I always look forward to your new videos releases, cheers mate 👍🙂

For what its worth, Shirley boy, we live in the south lakes in Cumbria, which are of course stunning. However, we have travelled to Argyll every Whit for 20 years for a family holiday within c. 30 miles of Oban. And its the one time we come home to the lakes and say "well, not bad I suppose". Argyll trumps the lakes in every way that matters to us. Bigger mountains, bigger vistas, stunning coastline, lots of islands and ferry trips, friendlier people, roads TO DIE FOR.. (if you been to the lakes .. ugh!), sea lochs AND fresh water lochs, AND WAY FEWER PEOPLE!!! :) We will be straight back as soon as circumstances allow. Go. You will never regret it!

I've ridden this road by motorcycle hundreds of times over the last 30 years for an annual Sept pilgrimage to Invercoe campsite in Glencoe village. Rannoch moor can be desolate when the wind and rain are howling from west to east ! Also ski-id many times at the Glencoe ski resort, to see the place in winter with full snow everywhere is breathtaking! 👌

I first drove up here in the mid 80s, and wondered to myself "what happened to all the trees?" Now I hear there are plans afoot to re-wild vast areas of these barren highlands, so I hope I live long enough to see native forests begin to re-claim what was rightfully theirs.

You would also need to control the deer that eat the trees, especially young trees. You could do that by allowing hunting, or by reintroducing wolves. Both options would probably be controversial, but the trees won't survive long without protection.

We were up that way over the week 28th April - 5th march 2024. Got back yesterday in fact. I am so glad I have a decent dashboard Camera, it recorded the lot for me to treasure. We did it in memory of my late partner who sadly passed from cervical cancer in late 2018. She always wanted to vist Scotland, Loch Ness, The Highlands, The Isle Of Skye. So we saved up for a couple years after her passing, and me and my lovely mum did it for her... Absolutly breathtaking. We also stayed 2 days in Apple Cross. I'm putting a video together myself of the Holiday. It'll be up soon. We loved it that much we're going to do it again next year... The weather was stunning, it was 80 degrees at one point over the week...

I done this route every year from January for over 20 years. Used to keep an eye on the snow and ice forecast before making the journey. Glencoe for a week then onto Aviemore for a week depending on winter climbing conditions. A serious accident put paid to my climbing but when my new self build camper is done there will be no stopping me. So desperate to break out the ice gear but just to visit your beautiful country is enough. All I can say is Aonach Eagach. One of my memorial winter days in full snow and ice conditions

Thank you Steve! So glad that KZbin recommended this video completely randomly! I remember this road so well! I took a trip on a whim after deciding I needed a complete reset from what had been a couple of crappy years in my life. Woke up one morning in Feb 2015, booked, what turned out to be, a fantastic B&B in Fort William. Started the drive only a few days later from Hertfordshire. Drove the route at night in snow on the way North. Didn't appreciate what the scenery was like that night as was pitch black with snow on either side. The following morning, I drove down to an old Scout haunt of mine in Lochearnhead in crisp, blue sky weather. It was the most beautiful, relaxing and awe-inspiring roads I have ever driven! This video reminded me that there are places to go where one can forget about the trials and stresses of normal life and just take a deep breath!! Thank you so much from a, now, very smiley middle aged man!!

Thank you. So many great and also a few poignant memories tied up with this road. I am so looking forward to travelling it again hopefully in October and this film has notched up the anticipation. It always comes up as the answer both my son and I give to the question; “Last tank of fuel on earth, one car to put it in and one road to travel on, which would it be? The car usually changes, the road choice never does! My late wife finally agreed to go to Scotland in 2002 simply to stop me begging her to go each holiday, She fell in love with it and in 2008 she chose to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in January near Loch Tay and the day trip we took up the A82 to Glencoe and her response to seeing the Three Sisters covered in ice and mist became one of her favourite memories and now one of mine. Both drives and their destination calm me. Loving your channel, which I just discovered a few days ago.
