I'm so envious of your public transit over in Europe and especially in the UK. The last time I rode an actual train was way back when I was a little girl. There are no trains close to us nor are there buses anymore. I watch your videos because I'm living vicariously through them. Thank you.

One of your best videos Steve. No, your BEST. You let your creative juices flow in your producer's cap. You had me chortling and chuckling and laughing out loud old mate. Your time line that included you in the steamy shower, and as you tossed and turned through the night. I was really amused by the bagpipe practice room on the train. When I was a lad, seventy years ago, Dad used to practice the pipes as I tried to get to sleep. That little kitten you befriended was a wee sweetie too. Thank you so much for good entertainment. Keep it coming!

As a train guard I can honestly say NEVER USE TRAINLINE for buying tickets. Almost all the problems we get on train are from trainline. Double booking, wrong advice and even selling tickets for trains that no longer run. That plus their less than useless customer service. Never use Trainline. Always use the company on who's trains you will be travelling.

made the mistake once to use trainline. After that I booked a package deal with Stenaline. Only getting through the gates at Liverpool Street station can sometimes be a nuisance as some guards don't consider the Stenaline ticket valid until they made a phone call. A QR to open and close the gates would be nice.

Never had any problem with Trainline. Good for booking in advance easy website to navigate plus good estimate of prices and times . Solve all my booking problems PLUS they notify you if you are entitled to delay compensation which is more than the train companies do

@@steve-marsh I’ve had a strong draw to Scotland most of my life, especially after learning the connection between clan Guthrie and Robert The Bruce. Then learned that my great, great, great uncle Guthrie was asked to go to France and bring back William Wallace. Hope you know, not being boastful, just very proud to be a distant kin. I hope you get by the castle…you know I’ll be watching!

Loving this. We once drove on to Skye in our camper van 'Clarice'. When we got to the Bridge of Skye we saw we had 1.30h to get to Uig to get a ferry to Tarbert in Harris. We didn't appreciate how big and, well hilly and wyndie Skye was and we made it with seconds to spare. on the Sunday we went to Stornoway and of course it was closed. We'll have to go there again. On the way back we went to Portree and had a proper night out in hte Cally club watching a local band.

Interesting to see the ferry was named Loch Seaforth. An older boat of the same name did the Stornoway run from Mallaig when I was a kid and holidayed there. We went on the Loch Arkaig (Inner Isles mailboat) and the Clansman (Armadale, Skye) but I always wanted to go on the 'big one' to Stornoway. Never got to go, so maybe I'll do it next time I'm up there. Last time from Mallaig I went to Uist, to visit a radio amateur friend. That was a fantastic trip, too. Great fun, Steve, and what a fascinating variety of modes of travel on your journey. It recalls some "ScotRail Pass" trips I made in the nineteen eighties when we tried to pack in as many miles of rail travel as possible. My own experience of "Sleepless in Inverness" came as the result of sitting up up on an overnight train from Glasgow packed with Costa Brave returnees fuelled by in flight booze and duty free Sangria... A restless journey made longer by stops to shunt and unload mail vans en route, not something you see on today's railways. We stayed at B&B's with satisfying Scottish breakfasts, and visited pubs for pints of 30/- and mutton pies.I had my first taste of "Arbroath Smokies" in a restaurant off Princes Street. What a transformation at Glasgow Queen Street, the only mainline station where I've had my name announced over the PA thanks to my "pals" from ScotRail and the Worth Valley Railway. I guess the gloomy climb up the tunnel to Cowlairs is still the same! The glimpse of the model of the de Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane "airliner" at Stornoway Airport reminds me of watching these pre-war aircraft buzzing in and out of St Marys on the Isles of Scilly services operated by BEA in the nineteen fifties. We couldn't fly as we took our dog with us on these holidays to St Martins, and had to sail from Penzance by the "Scillonian" ferry. Breakfast after the overnight sleeper journey from Paddington would almost always end up "feeding the fishes" on the two hours or so of the crossing as she pitched and rolled over the Atlantic swells. Happy days!

I feel your pain, I used to work in Keith, the connections between the trains at Aberdeen were always mega tight! Interesting trip!🤣 I've literally just booked to go from Kirkcaldy to Inverness and back via London and the Caledonian Sleeper next month.. just cause 🤣 another cracking video 👌🏻

I absolutely loved this video, the phone booth and the pub. When my Dad and were last in Scotland, we would walk from Old Kilpatrick to Bowling visiting the pubs on the way to Bowling and take different route back and do those pubs as well. This is one of my favorited videos you have done. Great job!!!

Well I must say that was most enjoyable and certainly brought back many memories. I didn't make it back again to Scotland this year sadly enough ( Covid ) but here's hoping for next year. I can go back to the mid fifties when we spent summer holidays in Nairn. What a journey that was back then ,, Macbrayne's bus from Killermont Street bus station I think it was about seven in the morning. We were on the way to Inverness, the bus stopped for tea at Ballachulish and Lunch ( dinner ) was at Fort William ,, After arriving in Inverness we took the Bluebird bus to Nairn ,, it took about eleven to twelve hours in those days. Well I enjoyed spending the time with you Steve, that was a fine Scottish breakfast you were served at your B&B ,, loved the video ,, thanks for posting !! great job !!

That sounds fantastic! Travel is too bland and efficient these days, it was more of a proper trip with all the stops etc :)

I wish West Coast buses to Oban had tables. Hard work balancing sandwiches and drink! That brought back memories when I worked and lived in Inverness and Stornoway. Rented a wee house in Ardersier too!

Hi Steve. I love the fact that many of the signs are in Celtic ( is that correct ?) As well as English. I also thought it quite unique that there are carriages on the trains specifically for practising the bagpipes !.....that's something you wouldn't find "down under", that's for sure !😂 Quite an interesting and busy weekend, but that's the life of a KZbinr !🧡

Happy belated Steve! I am rewatching some of your videos making notes as our trip gets closer. Thank you for showing us how easy it is to get around using every mode of transportation. We are renting a motor home for the weeks exploring the out islands but are using good old foot power for the rest. Thanks for ticking all the boxes with this one!

Wow 🤩 that was exhausting. Need a cup of tea to recover. What a brilliant idea for a video absolutely loved it. A brief glimpse of Dundee where we will have a few days in September. Nice to see your Dad making an appearance The V and A looks impressive along with the Discovery. At least you didn’t beat me I. The dolphins 🐬 viewing stakes, will try Fort George instead of Rosemarkie this year as not such a slope down to the sea. The western isles are definitely on next years travel list. Take care till the next one
