"How did it go over?" "How did people respond?" "Do people like Canadian art in the states now?"

I saw it several times and it was absolutely stunning. I lived in Northern Canada and it resonated with me deeply.

"Art" has had a very loose connotation since the days of post-impressionism!

I see these as surreal landscapes. Makes me think of Rockwell Kent and Maynard Dixon. Dixon was about the Southwest but there's a similar mannered quality to the work. Regionalism. Very stylish and sensual.

I think this woman is definitely doing the Jean Sebring look from that iconic film whose name I cannot recall

If you like Lawren Harris I suggest checking out the work of Kenneth Harrison, a contemporary Canadian artist who paints in a similar style. The Mountain Gallery in Jasper sells his works. And it won't cost you $11 million!

i'v e found that if you see the landscape for yourself , it does look like the painting. the artist gets it right

As was said in the intro, truly a renaissance man. Also ... Nice to see a clip, however brief, of my namesake

Amazing that this iconic artist can generate such controversy amongst artists, assuming artists are making comment here. Ir lovers of Art. . . Artists and lovers of realize that what they paint or create will appeal to some and not to others no? A fan of Thomson led me to pay more attention to Harris. I am not such a fan of the abstract but is there really room to deny the man's talent? If anything ticked me off here it is Mesley begging for acceptance, Canadians vs Americans. move on , yes we can, gives us a better edge. Mesley shouldn't be talking art, she is CBC fluff.. She was more interested in probing Martin on whether he thought Canadians were good enough. His responce was yes- body language was saying. Why are you asking me.? Wendy was showing her insecurities..

The group of 7 artists cannot be isolated but rather must be experienced as a group of works. The McMichael gallery allows one to fully indulge oneself in this. A short news clip can't possibly touch on the various influences which drove the ethos and styles of the members of the group. However one must first review their war art to understand the desolation and shattered images which hold such stark beauty. These works are a very narrow and uncharacteristic view of Harris who for my own understanding was best represented by his use of cadmium yellow and intimate Toronto Street scenes of houses and neighbourhoods. These monumental landscapes are lesser qualities of a true master whose talent is but a facet in the jewel that is the group of Seven. Sorry SteveO you'll need to spend a little more time to understand what most Canadian school kids learn before they get to High school. But it is nice to see some interest from south of the border and I love the Banjo playing. Your best movie is Deadmen Don't wear Plaid! Best ensemble cast ever! Oh for the days of Sam Spade and film Noir! (PS Wendy all that was missing from your ensemble was a beret and a rose! Bon nuit)

They look a lot like Russian painter Roerich, but it dull colors, I bet Steve Martin invested in this artist, because these are not the works of a genius....

Ah yes, let us glorify people who cannot capture a landscape in their art. What is the next exhibit? Finger painting by monkeys?
