Harold Jones is my cousin! His brother "Deacon" Jones was one hell of a B3 organist. They both were born in Richmond, Indiana.

Great job. Too bad you didn't give us an audio sample, though.

A thing of beauty, and Noah is a magician, but this video is not complete until someone plays that snare.

We used brass or bronze wool and brushes in stripping an entire dining room with oak plate rail, doors, winds, mop boards. If it didn’t scratch oak, I doubt it would scratch chrome. I’m passionately again the use of steel wool, though. A beautiful reconditioning of this historic snare.

WOW. That looks fantastic now. I've always steered away from owning a Super Sensitive because of the difficulty of transporting one. I don't hear all that much difference that would warrant the added complexity.

I love the sound of this snare on the album “Basie-Straight Ahead”. Does anyone have any tips to get this sound? What snare sounds the most like it?

I love old instruments left as they are as long as they still work properly and sound good. That said, this did clean up fantastically well. Good job guys 👍

Great work!!! I've done a few cleaning jobs like this my self. My buddy has a black beauty super sensitive and a regular super sensitive. They are a headache to pull apart unless one has the time and patience!!

Another amazing job by Noah. You made it look so easy. How long did it actually take? Well done. I agree with others, a nice finish would have been to play the drum and some commentary.

I'll have to see if we can get Steve Sr. to play this one sometime for another video, I'd really love to see it too. This probably took somewhere between an hour and a half to two hours, thanks Greg!

Great job, yet what you actually did to clean the drum was off screen at the top. :-(

Willing to tell us more about what you used on the drum other than steel wool. That green bottle looks like Turtle Wax's Chrome Polish and Rust Remover, though never saw you pi k it up or down in the video. Would like a DIY video on doing a drum like that, or a price on having you do it.

It's Chrome over Brass? The lugs look like the earlier type imperial lugs if I'm not mistaken. I'm probably wrong though. :) Nice clean-up job. It looks like it just came from the factory.

Pre-serial keystone plus shell crimped at the snare beds= definitely this looks to be a COB shell.
@alanduncan1980
@alanduncan1980 4 жыл бұрын
@@mellilore not necessarily. The earliest aluminum shells had no serial numbers and had crimped beds. The lug design is the thing to look out for.

How is this different from a supraphonic ?
@stephenramirez4441
@stephenramirez4441 2 жыл бұрын
Most supras are aluminum although early ones were brass like this super sensitive. The chrome won't flake off on the brass shells like it does with chromed aluminum. Both alloys sound great but they sound different. Brass has a characteristic ring. Aluminum is dryer. You need at least one of each.

Was steel wool used?

Mostly bronze wool, tiny bit of steel.

Is the bronze wool completely scratch free?? Im not familiar with it.
@noahice
@noahice 4 жыл бұрын
Seth Baer It varies from drum to drum sometimes, but using 000 grade over a few lighter passes rather than digging in and doing it all in one pass has always kept them scratch free in my experiences. The bronze falls apart twice as fast as steel and does about half the job with the same force applied - definitely safer on the bare chrome, but not as likely to be at the local hardware store!
