I met Mongo and several other Bears players in late 1985 while they were practicing for the Superbowl at the University of Illinois. Mongo was quite a character. Yes loud and brash, but clearly intelligent

One of the cornerstones of that Championship 1985 Defense , Steve McMichael defensive tackle that hammered the Offensive lines all those years. Chicago can NEVER express its gratitude of your playing career here ! TY Mongo for your sacrifice & Ryan should have called you by your name. Your not a number in Chicago ever ! Hard to even say what you & the 1985 Chicago Bears achieved despite the Halas ownership & mis - management !

@@duewhit310 191 straight games McMichael played in ! Quite the iron man on the D Line. Agree with you on the sacks coming from a D Lineman is a rare thing. Bears 1985 defense was stacked along with FS Fencik / SS Duerson / CB Frasier. Front 7 has to be the greatest put on a football field at one time.

The 85 Bears. The greatest football team in nfl history. There will never be another team that great, and with that many great personalities. They were entertaining on and off the field. They were fascinating. And Steve Mcmichael was a perfect fit on that team. With great skills, fierce determination, and an amazing personality. Chicago loves you always Mongo.

legendary. used to do radio interviews day after game. fun to hear while driving to work the day after game. just seemed like he was having fun poking fun at everyone in a nice way. players didn't used to talk to media in Chicago except in very formal interviews on cbs,nbc or abc with a little local mostly newspaper until around that 84 85 and after.

I’m not sure how you draw that conclusion. He is 5th all-time in recorded tackles, has 95 sacks (more than several other HoF def linemen like Mean Joe and Cortez Kennedy), he has double digit forced fumbles and more fumble recoveries than some HoF’ers, and is 5th all-time in career safeties. Plus he has one of the best sack totals in the post season. He may never get in, but the certitude in your comment is misplaced.
