First album that I ever had that I procured (thanks, Mom) was Fly Like An Eagle. Mom said that I could pick out one record, I had 0 idea what I was looking for but the cover was just so cool to me. The album was right out front on display, a new release 1976. This was the same year that I joined band as a drummer in school and had a snare drum. I would be in my room following the song with just the snare and fell in love with the drummer, and the songs. I've owned every subsequent Steve Miller output since. I love playing along on my guitar now, sometimes my drums, but always singing. From the Seattle area myself, Steve Miller is a true legend in my eyes! THANK YOU STEVE MILLER BAND!!

To have Les Paul show you how to play chords as a child is greatest story ever. Even with Les Paul as a mentor, Miller preferred playing Fender Strats!

When Steve takes the guitar off he’s just “me again”. I wish I knew more about him. The man behind the music sort of thing. What music does he like? Movies? Sports? I don’t think we will ever know but I’m happy playing his music and it’s a joyful thing. 🙂

@@kendallevans4079 LOL, what "telling off"? He successfully negotiated a recording contract, at a time when they were taking HUGE advantage of MOST new and up-and-coming musicians. No, humble doesn't mean allowing people to walk all over you. And he made them a ton of money. He IS a humble person, but doesn't put up with bullshit.

@@screwyootube1 The way he went about it is cocky and egotistical. He is lucky to be where he is considering his music is mostly 3 chord "campfire" songs. His lyrics are pathetic (Take The Money and Run?). I seen him in several interviews and he is always a jerk!

Steve Miller, your are AWESOME!!!!!!!! I am now in my 50's so your music brings back a lot of my teenage memories!!!! Driving down country roads and rocking out to Steve Miller Band and Foreigner and The Cars! Those were the days, I am just now getting back to hearing that music again also E.L.O is great! I watched your videos the other night and had so much fun at the computer. My teenage son was looking at me and laughing. Life doesn't get any better than that! Thanks for the memories!!!!!!!

Miller faced fierce competition for Grammy awards in 1973 through 77, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney, the Eagles, etc. it was a great decade for music. Personally, I think Fly Like an Eagle was Grammy worthy.

The Joker was the first single I ever bought back in 73 when I was a small kid at Gemco. I then discovered the full lp and went back and bought that too. He was an inspiration for sure. He's a rock star in the eyes of real musicians and I think that's what really matters to a fellow musician. Thanks Steve.

He was on fire in those days! They released "Greatest Hits 1974 - '78" based off of just the 2nd two albums (plus the title track from The Joker added because it would be crazy not to add his first #1 hit!), and it has the feel of a list of hits from a long career! At least half of these songs weren't even singles, but the quality of the music, the lyrics, the production make them all sound like they were hits, too! :)

Steve Miller is a rock star who doesn't "act" like a rock star even though he knows he is one. Everyone who hears his music knows he's got it because it's unmistakable. We all love him because it's like garage band hits the big stage and he made it but he never suffered from I, Me, Mine syndrome like too many others who became Legends in their own minds when they got noticed. People relate to his stuff because he's always had that down to earth blue collar quality to his music and his tunes were always catchy with a good groove and excellent lyrics. You'd find yourself humming those tunes in the middle of the day or at night or at any given time without even thinking about it because they just stuck in your mind every time he came out with a new one. I like the way he described himself as just a regular guy. Very under rated musician and song writer. Yo Stevo... Keep on rockin' me baby!!!

What Miller does best is craft a pop rock song...and he does it as good as anyone ever! He wrote Rockin Me Baby in 15 mins as a stadium filler that became one of the great rock tunes. "Fighting for FULL artistic control" He also was SMART in controlling the studio musicians/performances. Hiring Gary Mallober on drums was a brilliant move to start with.

The Joker, Fly Like An Eagle, and Book of Dreams are all such GREAT albums. Steve is one of the best songwriters ever imo. Non musicians don't often realize writing short catchy tunes like jet airliner or take the money and run is HARD. FLAE was a long jam out tune when Steve first wrote it, and when it came time to put it on record, he refined it and refined it like the artist he is. It woulda been ALOT easier to keep it as a long epic tune like it is live.

Most of the soundtrack of my youth right here. He was bigger than he realized, he may have had a clue but he literally rocked 4 generations and most of those people probably couldn't name the band lol They were that good! Amazes me how now you hear Pop boppers referring to themselves as Rock stars and it makes them just laughable to me. Steve's music is just that timeless Blues/Rock that immediately takes you to another place for awhile.
