Love this interview and ty for sharing. You feel the nostalgia that these guys were all friends and loving what they did. Hate things went sour but the road and constantly being around each other started to take its toll and I'm sure conditions were quite different then than they are now for the band.

The first thing I noticed is that Steve sounds like he has a cold. His speaking voice is a lot lower than I have heard and he sounds congested. And at 5:37 you can hear him sniffle. Poor baby, I'll bet it's hard to keep performing when you're sick. I love this interview, he's so honest!!!

I think Steve was right about his decision having had extensive back surgery myself I had the surgery and still hurt every day so I don't blame Steve at all for wanting to try everything he could before having surgery it was Steve's body not Neal and Jon"s it was major surgery no one in their right mind wants to have that done until you've tried everything else than surgery is your last option I can about guess Steve has some pain still because arthritis usually sets in with this kind of surgery

It's interesting here that Perry said there was a great nucleus between him Schon Ross and Greg- however, in later interviews like the VH1 special and REELZ interviews Perry stated that, " Schon Valory Dunbar and Rolie had a brotherhood before he was in the Band, and he never really felt accepted'' Hmm some contradictions here but Steve was probably upset with Dunbar at this point because they were not getting along as people and the chemistry was not there on Infinity which is true- Steve Smith was a much better fit for Journey and Perry's singing style Dunbar fit well with Jefferson Starship on hits like Jane and Find YOur Way Back

I had nothing to do with his hip or surger... and just as a note you know those are all "stage names" eh. Like we are all from Windsor Ontario The bass player the keyboardist and Dino the Guitar Player all live in the same Columbia Courts in Windsor Ontario at Partington and Third Concession I was born on Curry Perry

Most times Journey songs sounded the same live with the exception of a very few like Lovin Touchin Squeezin which was overproduced and sounded like Perry's voice was altered sonically for a more pop sound Perry could never sing Lovin Touchin Squeezin live the way he did on record Do you Recall a similar thing and Journey opted out of doing Sweet & Simple for obvious reasons overproduction besides Evolution Journey learned to keep it simple no pun intended to perform the songs live

This is Steve. His voice has changed as he's aged - it's gotten a little higher and raspier. Even his laugh is higher. The way he sorta smacks his lips when he pauses, the way he takes deep breaths at times: It's him. And Steve is very meta, so yeah, he uses "5 syllable words."
