Thank goodness the person who recognized Steve's talent and insisted he was the guy the then struggling band called Journey was just what would rocket them to stardom.

People forget that Perry didn't just have a great voice. He was a great songwriter who came up with great melodies and lyrics too. Very underated in that regard.

Wow…so young with such an incredible voice then. If he’d known where he was headed and what an impact he would make on all of us who grew up with Journey throughout the world…🥰. I’m amazed at how his voice still strikes awe in people’s faces when they hear his voice for the first time on the Journey songs as well as his solo albums. Either Journey or his solo songs are on my phone, in my back jeans pocket, playing wherever I go, including the grocery store, and I’m 68 years old🤣!

Oh hi Rita, wasn't it you a year or two ago who warned Steve Perry fans about fake impostor accounts and told me about an old interview with Steve where he spoke about this? I think I found it recently, could you confirm if it's the one you were referring to?: *Lora Beard, who runned Steve's fan club at the time:* _There is the perception that you have a computer and are online, visiting various web sites, going into chat rooms and sending and receiving emails. Is this correct?_ *SP:* _I am here to tell you that it is incorrect. I am not online; I am not sending or receiving emails. I have never been on line. There have been some people impersonating me in the past and I understand it is a problem again. It saddens me because if they ever liked any creative endeavor that I have been privileged to be a part of, it doesn't speak too highly of what they represent, which is supposed to be a fan, not impersonating me. The bottom line is that there is no way to control the level of dishonesty on the Internet. It's just the beginning. People should also be aware that there are laws in place about impersonating people in all sorts of venues. The Internet is no exception. If anything, it could be more intense to impersonate someone on the Internet. If you are conversing with someone you think is me through email or any other way, I just want to reiterate again that I am not having conversations in chat rooms or sending or receiving emails. I just wanted to clear this up. I would caution people who are on the web to be careful and not so easily impressed by who you think you are talking to. Please be assured that this is absolutely the official response from me._ (Source: Q&A session on Fan Asylum, February 2000)

Speaking of a young Steve Perry, here is to my knowledge his oldest recording available on KZbin so far (summer 1973 or 1974 according to different sources, so he was 24 or 25 years old back then): kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5bInGSOmryMhq8

@@johnnymohawk1015 Ha ha, I was about to write the same thing! Indeed, this band having lasted from 1975 to 1976, this recording predates the Alien Project by a few months to maximum one year.

What became of the other members of Pieces?
@CyregO Жыл бұрын
Bassist Tim Bogert is the one who had the most popular career (after Steve Perry, I mean 😉): he was the bassist of Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, and then formed in 1972 BBA, a band with Carmine Appice and no less than... Jeff Beck! A few years after Pieces, he collaborated again with Steve just before the latter joined Journey. Their project was finally released in 1979 and is called "Pipedream", I have no proof that Steve sings on it, although I can't help but wonder if he didn't participate in some harmonies at least on the songs _Only Cause_ and _Dance On Baby_ (he's credited as composer and lyricist on these 2 tracks)... Tim was recognized by his peers as a virtuoso instrumentalist and had created in the late 80's an original method to learn and improve your bass skills (you can find some of his VHS lessons on KZbin). He unfortunately passed away two years ago. Drummer Eddie Tuduri has at least two KZbin channels: "The Rhythmic Arts Project Concert Series", and... simply "Eddie Tuduri"; I just had a chat with him on KZbin two days ago! Finally, there was the guitarist Denver Cross, whom I don't know. 🤷♂

Wow Johnny Mohawk, thank you for this outstanding archive! To tell the truth, I already had the main song in my first expansive Steve Perry "1973 to 1982" playlist for over a year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/in_WfYpuaLJ9pbc , but this is the first time I've heard the first 25 seconds of this video! Are they from the same file or did you combine the two?
@johnnymohawk1015 Жыл бұрын
Yes I combined the two tracks. To my knowledge, that’s all that has ever surfaced from the “Pieces” demos so far.
@CyregO Жыл бұрын
@@johnnymohawk1015 Okay, thanks for combining them. I also have to thank you, because with _Look Into The Future_ with Gregg Rolie, _Live In The Midnight Hour / Cupid_ during the FTLOSM tour, and _Pick Up The Pieces_ with Steve Ferrone, it's now the 4th video I replace with your version in my playlists. For this one for example, it seems to me that the other version had less white sound in the background, but this snippet from another song at the beginning makes all the difference... In this context, you can imagine that I'm looking forward with impatience and curiosity to each of your new videos! 🤩
