JOURNEY- “Wheel in the Sky” alternate version, with long lost Steve Perry intro

Journey performing “Wheel in the Sky” live in the studio (10/1/78), for the King Biscuit Flower Hour.
This was Steve Smith’s first “appearance” with the band after replacing Ansley Dunbar.
The instrumental part of the intro was later used on the track “Moon Theme” from the album Dream After Dream.

I was so lucky to have seen Journey with Steve Perry in concert. I didn't know who they were. I could not believe what I was thinking. I knew they would make it big. I was so taken in by this unbelievable new band. Saw them in South Florida.

The thing I appreciate about this track is that this is Steve Perry with entirely dry vocals. It's really hard to hear how great a singer is without hearing their dry vocals. Studio dressed vocals are great, but they can sometimes disguise how great a singer really is.

I've always thought this KBFH studio version should have been the version they released on the album. Of course the album came out before this but still :-) I loved those concerts where Steve Perry would open up with this style of the song but sometimes different words or lyrics 👍 Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
