I honestly think Steve looked better than any ancient Greek or Renaissance statue that I’ve ever seen. Steve was his own sculptor.

Bill Pearl taught this triceps exercise at his gym in Pasadena when I started training in the 1970s. Pearl and Reeves were good friends. Some great stories there.

One of my favorite views of Steve's upper arms in his movies was when he was filmed from the side with his arms resting at his sides. The One Arm Triceps Curl most certainly contributed to this visual effect. I hope you consider doing an episode on Steve's shoulder width. I believe I remember an Earle Leiderman article in a Weider mag that his width was measured by Armand Tanny, using a caliper, at 23 or 23.5 inches. Steve claimed that the now-called Reeves Dead Lift stretched his clavicles for broader shoulders. I love your presentations.

Thanks, Lee! I appreciate your feedback. You don't hear much about the use of calipers these days so I find it interesting that during that time, calipers, just like tape measures were used. I have read that same thing about Steve having his shoulders measured.

He mentions it a lot in Building the Classic Physique, Dynamic Muscle Building, his Hercules Cookbook (I just got his Powerwalking book). His goal was 24 inches as he was a fan of Jack Lalanne's shoulder breaths of 20 inches

That photo you have of a side view of Steve, wearing sunglasses in a Hawaiian shirt is my absolute favorite photo of Steve. I have it hanging in my personal home gym. The absolute perfection of his arm, the balance and muscularity is amazing. The balance! Bicep, triceps, forearm. His arm, basically just hanging there, out of his shirt sleeve, impresses the hell out of me, every time I look at it. What I wouldn’t give to have arms like that. Oh yeah, I’m working on it.

Yep, there are 2 pictures of Steve in my garage gym - Perfection In The Clouds and the one that you're referring to. I believe that was taken when Steve lived in Florida and had opened his gym. I'm really working on the lateral head of my triceps to try and bring that muscle out. Good luck! - Scott

It can also be a great rear delt builder along with building the triceps. I can see why he was wide. It stresses your rear delts as well. In my opinion it's his 2nd favorite exercise to the incline curls.

I think your right, RJ. You can definitely feel your shoulder blade activating while doing these.

Could you get more range of motion on the floor rotating the torso a little to the side away from the dumbbell ?
@SteveReevesHercules3 жыл бұрын
You know what I discovered helped me to get more range of motion? Putting my non working arm in the exact position that Steve has his in the thumbnail of this video. Good question and it's certainly worth a try - Scott

The ONLY time I ever had an injury was by doing "Arnold Presses" with TOO much weight (75's) then I found out from Ric Drasin (R.I.P.) years ago Arnold didn't even go that heavy!!

Interesting! 75s are a lot for that movement. Hope you’re all healed up.
