In reality, Chance would have been turned into a bait dog if he refused to kill other dogs. That would have been a lot sadder and more accurate to what happens in reality... Also, near the end where he turned and bit a person, he would have been shot dead in two seconds. These people are armed, and train the dogs to not even be aware that they could turn on their owners, because those that do, die.
@MASTEROFEVIL3 жыл бұрын
Well that's dark
@101jir3 жыл бұрын
So for all the effort and tradeoffs they put into the message at the expense of story, they weren't even accurate to what actually happens anyway? They really didn't know what they were doing, I had assumed that they at least invested into accurately representing the subject matter if they were going to take that much time away from actual plot points.
@TheGoldenDunsparce3 жыл бұрын
@@101jir Yup. Trying to make it a kids movie pretty much made it almost impossible to show what really goes on. These "people" are all in it for the money; if a dog doesn't fight or thrratens their profits, it's good as dead...
@101jir3 жыл бұрын
@@TheGoldenDunsparce It really seems like the producers weren't really sure where they wanted to go with this. Educating children about the horrors of dogfighting while trying to keep it appropriate is already a monumental task, kudos for the attempt. But it seems that they sacrificed plot elements (important for any good story, and underestimated importance for children's movies) for the message, but then sacrificed accuracy to what would have happened for child appropriateness, ultimately getting... not the worst of both worlds, but pretty rough. As far as the subject matter itself, seems the dog is dead either way, just a matter of time and how prolonged the misery is. If it fights and loses, it dies. If it fights and wins, it will keep fighting until it dies. If it doesn't fight, it's a bait dog.

Severing the ears isn’t the term. It’s called cropping and docking. Crop for ears dock for tail; Unfortunately as per breed standards of pits and many other dogs including doberman and corgis for example: both ears and tails are simply cut off at a very young age, practically as newborns. I hate seeing how as humans we treat everything we see as property and not individuals. Long story and plenty of research short; ADOPT DON’T SHOP!

I really wished that Chances motivation was something different. Sure his girlfriend getting impregnated by his best friend sucks, but this just felt kinda strange. I get that he is pissed, but just going back to his owners and actually fight and kill. It's just like he threw his entire personality (with not killing) out of the window and says: "fuck it! Might as well kill." Edit: Also the training-montage Problem could have been avoided if the puppies didn’t understood what „fighting“ meant. Second Edit: Just thought about that: You know what could have made the City sequence actually useful? Maybe having some poeple around. Not for looks, but maybe people see that there are stray dogs and one is obviously hunted down by some untrusty guys. The scene shouldn't switch the focus from Chance, but maybe we see them in the background watching while he runs away from the car? That would also explain why the stray dog (forgot his name there) and Sugar end up at Haven. Maybe they started to investigate what was going on and found Chance wounded. I'm spending waaay too much time thinking about this movie xD
@aquabluerose77343 жыл бұрын
Totally. And yes, that would've been a great fix for the montage.
@Elementroar3 жыл бұрын
Also did he forget that they were captured by humans, and if they wanted Sugar to breed they would have literally FORCED her to breed by placing any horny dog with her to get impregnate her, willingly or no. She also expressed interest in Hannibal before any in Chance, it’s likely that even if they were still altogether, she would have picked Hannibal. They’re literally slave gladiators with even less rights than real world Roman gladiators cos they’re dogs, why does Chance act like Sugar even has a real choice in the matter when it’s more likely both his friends had to make a choice that would limit the pain Sugar would go through?

You know is even more depressing if you think about how the 'happy ending' isn't even really that. Chance, Sugar, and all her puppies would have a next to nothing chance to getting adopted out because of that fighting ring background and will most likely be put down. The puppies cause they were breed to fight with a parent that was a fighter dog, Chance because he was a fighter dog, and Sugar cause the likely hood of her also being breed to fight. Their hardships didn't end just because they ended up in a shelter.

The story suffers because the limited time means that only so much can be devoted to actual story elements, which are minimized in favor of getting something specific communicated. Although this takes it to another level. Not only did they double down on the time limit, but it seems that they doubled down on making sure to have people that know the details of this stuff to represent it accurately, at the expense of actual writing talent.

HEY STEVE, theres this obscure anime movie called Tamala 2010: A Punk cat in space, it is weird, but its one of my favourite movies, and it critizices themes like consumism, cults, etc, the interesting thing is that it was animated by 1 SINGLE PERSON IN FLASH And also therese a sequel in the works!

There's a lot of rescues at the shelter in my town, rescued from dog fighting, or being used as bait dogs, or even rescued from being turned into meals. My friend had rescued a pittie that was bred for fighting (she came from a whole line of fighting dogs), and she became a total sweetheart, but still had trouble around other dogs. My friend's other pittie was rescued from being a bait dog, and she was horrified of sudden movements but again, total sweetheart that loved to sit in your lap. It's horrible to see the ways dogs are mistreated, and just how mistreated any animal is in general.

The animation reminds me of like a computer game from 2000s. Not bad perse just not quite what I'd expect from a movie but given the small group of animators it's certainly not as bad as it could look. White Fang(the new one on Netflix) and Our Corner of the World would be good ones to look at also this Chinese animated movie called Butterfly Lovers

This happend to my Pitbull dog named penny. She was bred and raised for fighting so she has broken teeth scars and we had to get her a surgery before we picked her up from the vet. Penny was kept in a cramped cage for days without food or water before anyone found her and took her into the shelter. By the marks,broken teeth and bad area she was found in we could tell she was a fighting dog. Her owner left her because she wouldn't even harm a butterfly and because of that she almost died. Many people say Pitbulls are mean but its because of what humans are doing to them and to this day penny has never bit me or even shown any agression. If you disrespect an animal it will stand up for itself. In fact Pitbulls are named "nanny dogs" for their extreme kindness towards all familys alike.

Fun Fact on Pitbulls : They aren't a breed on their own, but more of what you would call a "genre". Pit Bull is the term given to a number of dog breeds that were bred out of the need for more competitive dogs in early blood sports. The earliest of which was something called "Bull Baiting". From what i understand, you tied a bull down to a stake, and set a group of dogs on the bull. People would be on which dogs would survive, how many would survive, how long they'd last, and even on the possibility of taking out the bull. Now the animal owners were compensated somewhat well for these fights, but the dog owners had a problem. Either you had a fast terrier that could avoid the bull for the most part, but be a nonissue in terms of harming the steer; or you had a bulldog, which could pack a hell of a bite, but was too sluggish to avoid getting gored/trampled. They ended up inter-breeding terriers and bulldogs and it gave rise to the dogs we now call Pit Bulls. To shorten this post up, Bull Baiting was banned, but Dog Fighting continued to remain prevalent (behind closed doors) and Pit Bulls were a mainstay in the practice. Pit Bulls have are bred as fighting dogs, the same as how Labs were bred for waterfowl retrieval, and Bloodhounds for scent tracking. It is a legacy over 100 years in the making, and isn't easily undone overnight. Looking at you, people who think the violent nature of Pitbulls is overblown.

Fun fact: Not all Pitbulls were use in dog fighting. Not all of them were bred for dog fighting.

@ThatBugBehindYou2 жыл бұрын
I hate to even say this but the movie simply isn't realistic, there's no such thing as a fighting dog that "isn't willing to fight" or won't kill, these poor dogs are fed gun powder so they're in complete pain 24/7 while also giving them all kinds of drugs that just drive them mad and increase their strength. A dogfighting story can't really hit hard while undercutting how evil dogfighting is.

People think that animals don't feel pain or guilt and sadness. They do guy's...they are smarter than humans. They feel the pain, the sadness, and the guilt. Pit bulls are only violent because of bad owners, many other dogs are also only violent when raised by bad owners. Dog's are bread every day so that they can fight, which can kill them if the injures are severe.

For a stronger message maybe the humans should have killed Hannibal and Chance after they refused to fight each other since they have no use of dogs who refuse to fight. And perhaps when hearing of their deaths Sugar would have united the other dogs and escaped to the shelter. I think that would have made more sense and sent a more emotional message.
