I really wasn't expecting much from this Adam Sandler Silly Talking Lizard film, but to my pleasant surprise, this was actually an enjoyable watch. Offering some great characters, comedy, and heartfelt moments.

I liked that the kids forgave him on their own. I think I can offer an explanation of Leo's changing perspective on crying being for weaklings. He did believe that what he said in the beginning was true, but only because he hasn't been able to see into the lives of the individual children, only that he observed the class as a whole. By spending more time with the children, he realizes how wrong he was. A realization that I think should've been in the film. As for the criticism about the kids getting angry at Leo because they found out that he lied to them, but then quickly forgiving him, they probably changed so quickly because of how much he helped them, and because they probably thought that he only said that because he was just trying to make sure the kids knew individually that they could trust him. If you're wondering, yes, I do often look too deep into things
@wolfman2.055

I figured that it was just a take on how society dealt with emotions over time. It’s a fairly common thing for people who are from different generations to have differing opinions on things and it’s kinda reflected here with Leo and Squirtle being quite a bit older than bulk of the other characters. To them it’s not seen as productive or even acceptable to cry when facing adversity but for the younger characters this isn’t the case since as the girl stated in the film it’s been proven scientifically that it is actually beneficial to cry , a breakthrough that is a far more recent discovery. Essentially the take on crying here is quite accurate since I vividly recall there being episodes of tv shows that touched on this while I’ve met older people who were adverse to crying .

The concept of the classroom animal helps students out with their problems when taken home with them just unlocked a memory of a book called the World According to Humphrey, which is just one of the many books in that line. I loved that book as a child and would love for it to be adapted into a movie someday. It's about a classroom hamster who helps the students and some teachers out with all their problems. Only humphrey can't talk, and so has to use actions to help them out. Makes me wanna read it again, as well as the other ones which I never got round to reading. I only ever read this one

The fact that Adam Sandler made a better, more heartwarming film than Disney is still so surreal. I never expected an Adam Sandler movie to be this heartfelt, genuine, or actually funny. I love the concept, the characters, the banter between Leo and Squirtle is golden, and when the movie hits you in the feels, it hits hard. It does get clunky in the 3rd act, but overall it's great. Also, thank you for addressing the issue of Leo not actually being a lizard, the biology student still finds that a bit annoying.

I was worried at the beginning, going in completely blind, but I was very surprised by it. The lesson to treat kids like human beings and take their problems seriously was one I didn't anticipate, and it's so interesting and refreshing to see coming from the perspective of the older character who doesn't take kids seriously rather than a kid who isn't being taken seriously. I actually quite love the scene where the kid explains to him that crying is good. I think you missed the point; it wasn't that Leo couldn't teach her, but she just so happened to be able to teach herself. It was that she was always capable of teaching herself, and didn't need a lesson. She just needed someone to spend quality time with her. I think it's a wonderful inclusion.

You know, I feel like the internet has made me so suspicious and cynical of all adults' motives for helping kids. It was honestly very refreshing to a see a grandfather figure who was really trying to make a difference in these kids' lives by taking an active interest in helping them explore, cope with, and even grow from their fears. Like, it's somewhat simple but so effective as an animation because what's so intimidating about a lizard? You are able to focus on an old character who is just trying to help children as a result. It made me even realize a few things that I need to watch out as a parent myself so that my own child doesn't feel like they have to bottle up all their fears in front of me either.

So the crying scene I honestly believed that Leo didn’t actually know that crying is sometimes a good thing. Especially with the beginning scene, it seemed like he and Squirtle were firm believers that “crying makes you weak.” So when the girl does end up explaining to Leo, he was happy to listen and eventually learned that it’s okay to cry. Leo even cries towards the end and reassures the same girl that crying did actually feel good.

I stumbled across this movie by complete accident one day while looking through netflix.. And it really did surprise me. Sure, it was cheesy with the constant and often unnecessary musical numbers, but its core and characters are solid. That's what really counts and no movie is ever gonna be perfect.

Fun fact tuataras have a third eye on top of their heads it is only used for sensing light it's located right between the two main eyes in the middle of their head And also the tuatara is part of the 6 main group of reptiles 1. crocodilians 2. snakes 3. Lizards 4. Turtles and tortoises 5. Tuataras 6. Birds

There's only ONE animated movie out there that tops this - and a movie that Disney did not deserve. Also on Netflix by the way. The movie is called Nimona. Originally a Blue Sky Studios production, after Blue Sky closed, production on Nimona was cancelled all together. Netflix and Annapurna Pictures picked up the movie, teamed up with DNEG Animation to finish it up, and the finished product is something I think you'll enjoy, Steve. Really interested to hear your thoughts on it! EDIT: I am not going to argue with anybody's opinion. If somebody enjoys Leo more than Nimona, I can totally respect their opinion. It's their opinion, I can't change their minds.

Actually, while the family the Tuatara belongs to (the Rhynchocephalians) does go all the way back to dinosaur times, the Tuatara itself is actually from the Miocene. It’s still cool. By the way, how did this school manage to find a New Zealand reptile for their pet?!

And to think "Leo" is literally the 2nd movie where Adam Sandler voices a talking animal. Because the only other time he did that was when he voiced a talking monkey in Kevin James's "Zoo Keeper." And he used that exact same voice for the monkey as well.

Adam was superb in the movie. You can understand its him speaking for the lizard and yet its so perfect like that is how an old lizard would speak if he could speak. Very well supported by the old teacher. I do not know who did the voice for her and the turtle. And the animation is good. Very well done.

I really enjoyed this film, I knew it would be interesting watching the first trailer. My only nitpick is I wish Leo WOULD have died in the end. I get it, it's a kids movie at its core, but I feel like if he had passed it would have tied a bow around several themes in the movie. The kids learning to move forward, Leo making an impact, Squirtle needing to take up the torch and thus becoming selfless. In a weird way I felt cheated with how it ended, but I also understand that it might be a little uncomfortable for kids if it ended that way. I'm really shocked that Adam Sandler was able to get me in my feels while being an arthritic talking reptile, but I guess there's new suprises every day!
